Lobster Wanted April 27-29th in Maine

We are travelling to Maine the last weekend in April, via Boston Airport, and want to eat at the traditional lobster pounds, hard shell lobsters, outside at the picnic benches. Are any pounds open this weekend? We have travelled to Maine on two other occasions, once in early October and once in Mid-May and both times enjoyed an abundance of lobster on paper plates outside in all weather conditions. We are going as far north as Brunswick, ME, but could be persuaded to go further, if a traditional lobster pound is open for business this weekend.

You may not find a true lobster pound open that early in the season in Maine. If worse comes to worse, you could always go to a seafood restaurant in Portland, ME -- many restaurants in this city are open year-round -- where they'll certainly offer lobster.

Looks like you're a little too early for Five Islands Lobster which is closed until May 7.

Petey's in Rye NH is a casual restaurant near the beach and is open year round. Good, varied menu. DH thinks they have the best lobster rolls within driving distance from home. Sometimes they have a twin lobster special.

It looks like the Sea Basket on Rt 1 in Wiscasset will be open by then. No sure if they have lobster dinners but good lobster rolls and fried seafood. Very casual restaurant.

Two Lights Lobster Shack on the shore in Cape Elizabeth, just south of Portland is open as of March 24 according to their web page. It is a fantastic location right on the rocks.

Lobster is so plentiful in Maine, that a funny TRUE story comes to mind.-- Recently, the inmates of a prison in Maine circulated a petition, complaining of all the doggone lobster they had to eat!

I think what you have in mind is The Ogunquit Lobster Pound, in Ogunquit, ME. I read in one of the reviews that these people were there in a snowstorm, so may open all year????. Try checking them out to be sure.

Yeah, it isn't tourist season so you can't just drive down to the end of any road and sit on the pier eating lobsters. Besides , you would freeze. But most towns will have somewhere you can go.
