Lobster, Portsmouth, N.H.
Hi! We're thinking of a summer weekend in Portsmouth, N.H. Anyone know a great restaurant for lobster? Thanks
For a lobster shack experience, try Newicks on Dover Pt. From Portsmouth, head towards Durham. Anyone can give you directions. Very casual, big place on Great Bay. Good selection of fried seafood too.
I had a wonderful lobster dinner at a restaurant called The Dolphin Striker. It was kind of expensive, but it was perfect!
Definitely the Ferry Landing!
Casual, fairly priced, right downtown, and outside by the water.
If you're up for a drive over the bridge to York, Maine, go to Bill Foster's Clam Bake. Fun,fun, fun!
Thank you all for your suggestions. My mouth is watering already! What would be the closest (nice) beach to Portsmouth? Thanks.
You could also try Brown's in Seabrook if you happen to spend the day at Hampton Beach. Its a great casual place - BYOB - steamed lobsters, steamers, fried claims, good chowder.
I second the recommendation for Newick's. It's the classic place to go for a true New England lobster dinner. Obviously, "fancy" is not part of the experience.
The Dolphin Striker is small and intimate. It's been a long time since I've been there... It is still there, isn't it?
I live in NH and my dh tries to live on lobster! For the best and frestest lobster, any lobster pound on the beach it a good choice. I HATE Newicks. All their food tastes the same. My favorite place to go is Warren's Lobster House. They have an incredible salad bar and great desserts as well. It is basically in Portsmouth but technically it is over the river in Kittery Maine. Essentially on the border between the two states.

As for beaches, there isn't much difference from one beach to another in NH. If you drive into Maine a short ways, Wells Beach is great for kids and Ogunquit is beautiful and a little more adult. They will all be packed in the summer but any good guidebook will lead you to small lesser known beaches. We stick to the off season and skip the beach in July.
