Lobster on pier in York Beach, ME

We will be travelling to York Beach, ME with BIL and SIL and their 3 kids who have NEVER seen the ocean! One of their dreams is to have lobster at a quaint roadside stand or pier/dock and eat picnic-style. We have been to York before, but have eaten in restaurants, which is not what we're looking for this trip. Does anyone have any suggestions? We do not mind travelling a bit north or south of York Beach. Thanks for your help!

We just returned from Bar Harbor and found many roadside lobster stands, where they have outdoor pots of seawater they boil the lobsters in. YUM.

There's a famous spot in Cape Neddick, just south of York....I'm sure that anyone you ask will know it. Enjoy!

I was in Cape Neddick just last week. There's a resturant near the lighthouse where you pick out your lobsters. seemed pretty reasonable, but that may have been the take out price ($10.95/lobster). The lighthouse on Cape Neddick is the most photographed in NE or Maine or something. Have a great trip.

Thank you tracys2cents and dsieve for your responses. I found the Cape Neddick Lobster Pound website - looks like you can eat in their restaurant or at picnic tables overlooking the lighthouse. Yes, Nubble light is very picturesque and I'm sure they'll love it.

We plan to go on the lobster trip with Finestkind Cruises in Ogunquit - I think the kids will enjoy it.

Thanks for you help. Here's hoping we have good beach weather!

We'll we're back from York Beach and it was Fabulous! The weather was picture perfect and we spent lots of time on the beach! Our campground (Camp Eaton) was right across the street from the ocean, and at night you could hear the waves!
We ended up having our special lobster dinner at Fox's, which is right at Nubble Light - it was fantastic! (This must be the restaurant that dsieve referred to). Large picture windows looking over the ocean and the side window overlooked the lighthouse. The food prices were average for the area, but the seafood was some of the best we've had in Maine. I would highly recommend it - but go early to avoid a wait. After dinner we climbed on the rocks by the lighthouse - what a treat! Some kids found a star fish, which they let us hold - my 6 yo niece loved it. Fox's wasn't the lobster pier setting, but it was picture perfect!

BTW, the lobster trip with Finestkind Cruises was very enjoyable. Our relatives are from Ohio, so this was a completely different experience for them. It's only about 1 hour and was very informative. They let everyone touch the crabs, sea urchins, etc. that are also in the trap.

My 6 yo niece loved the ocean and spent all of her time playing in the waves. We hadn't been to York Beach in many years, and it was the perfect choice - sandy beaches and rocky coastline - lots of tidepools. It has remained very non-commercial (except for the downtown area) which is a refreshing change.
