Going to Maine next week and will be looking for a place to have a Lobster dinner. We will be staying at Bar Harbor. Looking for a reasonable priced restaurant.
Thanyou ED

You may have a tough time on Bar Harbor finding reasonable prices in any restaurant. This week I spoke to a year round resident who said that a family dinner of just pizza and sodas cost him almost $50 for what would probably be about $12 off island. There isn't enough help this year and he claimed prices have gone up because restaurants have to pay workers more this year - dishwashers were getting $16/hr. Some restaurants have cut back on hours and/or tables. We thought it was easy to find reasonable priced lobster when we visited in June 1997 but I guess that's changed.

Ed-we just got back from Bar Harbor and Mt. Desert Island last week. You will find that almost every restaurant has a complete lobster dinner before 6 or 630pm for around $9.95. This includes the full lobster/potato/salad or coleslaw and sometimes vegetable. The price usually jumps up to anywhere from $14.95 to $16.95 afterwards. Lobster rolls are going for around $9.95 but you can still get them at McDonalds in Ellsworth(just before you cross over to Mt. Desert Island) for $3.99. I have been going to Maine for over 25 years and I must admit the McDonalds version is quite good for the money!Any other questions-email me. Have a super time,Debbie

Thanks for the info. I was using Bar Harbor for a refrence point so any where in the area close by will do. Were taking our Grandkids and want to introduce them to a whole Lobster. We were out there about 10 years ago and ate in a small roadside place that had picnic tables. It was kinda neat. ED

In nearby Hancock, the Tidal Falls Lobster Pound is one of the most wonderful we've ever visited. The scenery is idyllic - picnic tables overlooking the reversing falls. You can bring your own wine, salad, and dessert if you like. But, blueberries are in season, and last time we went they had the most amazing blueberry tarts! It's worth the trip for the spectacular copper "lobster" weathervane atop the indoor pavilion. It's located half a mile off Route 1 (follow the signs). You may want to call to ensure it's still there (422-6818) as we have been in a couple of years. Otherwise, just pick up literature along your travels. If lobsters are plentiful during your visit, there will be lots of "two lobster specials" in the ads and on roadside signs.

Our favorite place for a whole lobster is Trenton Bridge lobster pound on Rt. 3 just before the bridge to Mount Desert Island. Has picnic tables and side dishes are simple and good.
