where is the best place to buy live lobster in boston for best reasonable price in bulk?

What do you mean by bulk?

Are you having a big dinner party? Or starting a restaurant chain?

will have a moderate size dinner party.

Oh, I thought you were selling them.

You know what ... I have bought live lobsters in Maine .. lobsters down the Cape .. lobsters in Boston .. from higher end fish markets... to supermarkets .. add Costco and B.J's to that list .. here's my feeling .. if the lobsters are alive and well .. honestly .. I do not find a big difference in taste .. however .. I prefer hard shell to soft shell ... I prefer cooking them at home as opposed to having them steamed at the store and then bringing them home ... So if the local supermarket has a better price .. I would without hesitation buy them there .. again providing they are alive and kicking .. and hard shell ... ! ! Soooooo good .. ! !

What time do you want us there? I will bring wine!

Do you have a favorite fish market? We used to always order ours in advance from the market we used (in NYC)..

Breakwater Seafood in Brewster, MA
Captain Marden in Wellesley, MA
and Legal Seafood in Chestnut Hill, MA .. but again the live lobsters from there do not really taste any different than those bought in local supermarkets .. but do be careful not to over or undercook .. !
Lots of people would say Maine has the best .. but I say anywhere along the New England coast ...

Here's my ultra secret tip on how to tell when the lobster you're steaming is ready.
After the water has been boiling approx. 5-7 minutes, remove the lid and give a tug on the antenna. If it pulls out easily those babies are ready!

James Hook is in Boston .. right on Boston's waterfront .. they do a terrific business .. they pack and shop as well .. but again .. lobsters that are hard shell .. alive and kicking taste just about the same no matter you get them along the New England coast .. ! !
