Lively town on Kaua`i?
 

Can someone recommend a town on Kaua`i?

My family (all adults 40's thru 70's) is planning a family reunion trip. We all enjoyed Maui staying in Lahaina because people could walk around, go shopping, visit galleries, etc. solo or in different groups without being tied to the car. Any similar situation on Kaua`i?

((r))Aloha suze - you'd probably be best off staying on the eastern shore, which would include the "busy hubs" ;) of Kapa'a, Wailua, Waipouli and Lihue. Lots of shopping and galleries in Waipouli and Kapa'a, and museum(s?) in Lihue. You would need transportation to Lihue, but I'm sure you could grab a taxi if necessary. I'll defer to auntiemaria for the most credible info on this, however - AuntieM, what say you???

mahalo margot- that's a great start! I have a new pile of guidebooks from the library, but it's sure hard to tell looking at the map and reading descriptions. much appreciated.

Maybe somewhere on Oahu would better suit us? But I was really getting excited about Kauai. Thanks for any help.

Suze - if "lively" is what you're looking for, as in shopping, hopping nightlife, etc., then Kauai definitely isn't it; however, if you're looking for the true intoxicating beauty of Hawaii, then Kauai is the place for you, as it has been for us for 2 weeks each winter for the past 16 years. If you were to opt for Kauai though, I would definitely get a car; otherwise, you're really missing out on all that the island has to offer. How long do you plan to stay in Hawaii?
