Live Jazz in NYC
Heading to NYC this winter and looking for some good bars/clubs for live music. We plan to pick up the Village Voice and have heard good things about a couple of places in the Village for music, but not jazz specifically. We're just looking for a place we can wander into whenever we have the time - not necessarily wanting to make reservations or planning on a certain night to visit. Hoping for a fairly casual atmosphere, a little funky would be fun - any place that people love and can recommend as being reliable for hearing good tunes. Take the term "jazz" loosely - we'd be into latin jazz, old standards or modern, or something in between.

bigapplejazz.com is a website that lists most of the places in the city.
The Knickerbocker Bar and Grill in the village has decent steaks and usually very good jazz. Dizzy's Coca Cola is in the Time Warner building and is part of the jazz at Lincoln Center program. They have Juilliard students playing on Mondays I think. Birdland is in the TS area as is BB Kings. The Jazz Standard is below a good bbq place, Blue Smoke http://www.jazzstandard.net/red/ |
My favorite place to hear jazz in NYC is the Jazz Standard after dinner at Blue Smoke (Danny Meyer's great restaurant -- don't miss the macaroni & cheese. Seriously.)
The Jazz Standard is below Blue Smoke just off Park Avenue South. Enjoy! |
