Guilty as sin!!!
I have not beem to most of the tourist traps since school days and class trips! (Come on guys, you remember those things, right?) Funny how most of us haven't been to any of these places since grade school!
I worked in the Empire State Building, so I was there every day. Also went to the top when friends came in from England. I've been to almost every other tourist place, including Windows On The World when they had their $5 Friday and Saturday Big Band nights. I think the only touristy things I have NEVER done in my life were the Circle Line and Radio City Music Hall during Xmas, although I did audition there once. Does that count?

I live in Manhattan with another home in Loveladies (LBI). I never got to Windows at the WTC. We always said next time, next time, next time. We try not to entertain too many houseguests at our apartment here. My in-laws were in our building's elevator with a celebrity once and embarassed the hell out of me. I told them our building has a couple of famous people who live here and should they run into them (we never even see them) just to nod and say good morning or whatever. Of course the in-laws start the "we are huge fans" bit. I had the doorman send a note of apology and a restaurant gift certificate for their troubles. Anyway, my husband wants to go to the Statue of Liberty since he has still never been there. Also, Ellis Island.
Like I was getting to before I started the in-laws tirade, the only time I venture out to the "tourist" restaurants (TOTG or Sardi's) is when relatives/friends are in town and say they've always wanted to go there. We try to steer them to other places with awesome food/less name recognition for a better dining experience, usually to no avail. Have you ever waited for over an hour for your coat from TOTG when you live a block away and could walk home without even getting that cold? UGH!

I grew up on LI and I think the reason that we never got to any of those places is that in the nice weather they are overrun with tourists and in the nasty weather, who wants to go out, you can just order Chinese food...

I have to plea bargain.

I went to the top of the WTC mid 90's numerous times, been to the top of the Empire State Building 2's, but have never been to the Lady or Ellis Island.

It's one of those things that if you live close by you think you can visit anytime ... although, as we sadly learned, that isn't really the case.
