Anything?

I have an uncle who just moved there recently. I just drove through the town on the way to their house, it looked like a nice little town. The downtown sidewalks were more crowded than most small towns, and there are hills and mountains around the area. The "old man in the mountain" isn't too far from there, if you're into that kind of thing.

The main street is lovely for strolling and shopping. There's a diner with fantastic breakfasts. For fine dining, either the Rabbit Hill Inn in West Waterford, VT or the Sunset Hill House in Sugar Hill, NH are magnificent, with views to match (both are nearby).

I don't think I'd be inclined to actually spend the day in Littleton -it's just a short distance north of Franconia Notch, where there are many things to see and do. In addition to the Old Man of the Mountains profile mentioned earlier, the Flume and the Basin are both interesting natural features. You can take the tram (cable car) to the summit of Cannon Mt. or enjoy one of the many short or long hiking trails in the area. The short hike from Lafayette Place Campground up to the AMC Hut at Lonesome Lake is not too strenuous and the views of Franconia Ridge across the pond are wonderful.

A short drive east takes you to Crawford Notch where you can take the Cog Railway up Mount Washington and afterwards relax with a cool drink on the spacious veranda of the magnificent and now restored Mt. Washington Hotel. Things are close together in New England, so most of the above is do-able in a single day.

The best dining option is the Franconia Inn. There is a website.

For breakfast, also in Franconia is Polly's Pancake Parlor. Tremendous!

See the Old Man in the Mountains and take the tram up to the summit of Cannon Mountain.

All of these suggestions are about 10 down the highway from Littleton.

In addition to the above, I need to point you to the Sunny Day Diner, 20 mi south of Littleton on US Rte 3. (next door to Clark's Trading Post, home of the trained bears). Polly's is really good, but the Sunny Day has the best breakfast in the White Mountains.
