Accommodations Budget?

There are a lot of good restaurants in both Mendocino and Ft Bragg -- but with the current lock down, which if any will survive no one knows. Wait til the first of the year or later and we can maybe make useful suggestions.

The various state parks are all worth visiting (Mendocino County is lousy with state parks ). Pt Cabrillo lighthouse. Glass Beach. The Botanic Gardens are an absolute must IMO. There are wine tasting rooms in Ft Bragg (again if they survive) and a beautiful winery on a headland north of town. The Skunk Train.

Be prepared -- August can be pretty cold and sometimes foggy. Basically, the hotter it is inland - it creates a marine later/fog/cold weather on the coast. Like the 107F we have today in the Central Valley -- it is 61F and cloudy in Ft Bragg. If you have flexibility w/ your travel dates -- mid Sept to early Oct would be MUCH better weather wise.

" . . . it is 61F . . ." and feels colder because of the on-shore breeze.

We stayed in the Little River Inn last year in October and loved it. The meals we had at their restaurant were perhaps the best of our entire vacation. However, it was a splurge stay for us. Not sure what your budget is.

I love the Little River Inn too (my family used to own a house in Caspar - between Ft Bragg and Mendocino but since the place was sold, I always stay at Little River when I head over that way). They have rooms from moderately priced to real splurges. You did ask for rentals so I assume you are more interested in a house or cabin??

The Anderson Valley is a prime wine growing area. Navarro Vineyards is one of our favorite for Alsatian style wines.

Going to Hendy Woods State Park, just before the bridge over the creek there is an honor system apple stand which carries a variety of local apples.

We stayed at the Heritage House in Little River many years ago. It still looks as classy and wonderful as it once was.
