Looking for good restaurants in Little Italy.

If so, the restaurants on Mulberry Street (Little Italy) all tend to be mediocre, but it's still a fun place for a meal.

For lunch, I suggest <b>Il Fornaio</b>.

For dinner, <b>Da Nico</b> consistently pleases.

Another option, while not on Mulberry, is the famous and delicious <b>Lombardi's</b> (pizza). It's on Spring Street between Mulberry &amp; Mott.

I thought it was a rhetorical question! Never got any bang for the buck,but fun to wander and maybe share an snack and move on...

Is Angelo's good? I've heard mixed reviews.

Do you have to go to dinner or are you just looking for a destination there?

If so, try Ferarra's bakery and cafe for a bite and of course save room for the dessert.

If you must go to dinner there are a few places recommended by Zagats etc. I had a good fritatta for lunch at Il Palazzo. There's a second floor and a garden room.

The Italian restaurants were declining and there is an organized effort to maintain them on Mulberry Street. Chinatown is encroaching and the neighborhood is a shadow of its former self.

It's not exactly a trip to Italy but if you must, have fun.

You owe it to yourself to have a clam pizza at Lombardi's. A once in a lifetime experience.

Is this Lombardi's the one with the coal oven?? Or is that Ray's??

Lombardi's has a coal oven and great pies.

We also go to Puglia's followed by Ferrara's for dessert. Not sure how PUglia's compares to ther places, but it is our tradition. Its been a couple years since we've been, but at that time they had lots of cheap homemade wine, tacky live musician (Jorge?) and lots of noise. We love the atmosphere of Little Italy in general

We go down there every so often more for the atmosphere than the food (although my son loves the food). After trying a few different places we picked Il Fornaio as our 'regular' spot. The place itself is not much to look at, but the food is good and the prices reasonable. The downside it, on a busy night, especially those summer weekend nights, service can be quite spotty there. Although they do make good for bad service. One we waited almost 2 hours for our main course with a cranky toddler. They didn't charge us for anything (including wine)! We did leave them a hefty tip though, because we did eat and drink our fair share.

If you get there early (before 6:30) it shouldn't be a problem.

For superior food in a lovely setting, I woud suggest Apizz on Eldrige Street on the Lower East Side. You can walk there from Little Italy. They have a wood-burning oven and great Italian food..much better than anything you can find in Little Italy in my opinion.
