Lion King - Seating

In your opinion would orchestra seats (Row S) be better than Mezzanine seats (Row FF) for this show? I'll be taking a six year old. I don't want to be too far away for her to really enjoy the show - otherwise she'll get bored by the second half and want to leave :-)

Thanks

Oops I forgot this is for the NY venue

tinathetoad Jan 20th, 2005 11:11 AM

where are you seeing the Lion King?

TC Jan 20th, 2005 11:27 AM

IMHO Row S would be better, but other NY theater experts may chime in. As long as the Row S tix aren't all the way to the side wall. If they are near the center orchestra, definately take them. The problem I have with side seats is that the sound is distorted or very loud at times. In Lion King (not to spoil the excitement) all the animals make a wonderful entrance down the theater aisles. It is so much fun to be on the main floor for that.

The seats in Row S were to the left side (25 and 27)
The Mezzanine seats were center (111 and 112)

That last post changes everything. Those seats are completely against the side wall. The ones in the mezzanine are approximately 1 to 2 rows further back but centered. Take those. I'd also think your short 6 year old will be less blocked by the heads in front of him there than against the wall in S, where he probably wouldn't see much of anything. TC's point about the aisle parade of the animals is a good one, but I think NOT being against the wall downstairs overrides that point.

I totally agree with Patrick. Neither location is great, but the mezzanine seats get the nod.

We sat in the first row mezzanine for the Lion King. We loved the view from up there.

I can't help you with the seating locations, but here's a tip - we took our kids to see a lot of shows from a fairly young age (now teens and young adults, they still love to go to the theater). When they were young and short, we had them bring their pillows to the theater - they would double them over and sit on them, adding several inches and giving them a fighting chance to see over the adults sitting in front of them. In the winter, we would add our coats underneath the pillows for even greater height. You might think of doing the same for your daughter (niece? friend?) so she can see and enjoy the show more.

Thank you all for your great advice. I'm going to stick w/ the mezzanine seats. Looking forward to the show.

I agree with all, the side seats are not good and certainly changes my advice. You are correct to go with the Mezz seats. Its a big, grand production and a wide view will be excellent.

Hint: when we saw the show in London (so don't know if this is true of NY) many of the characters greeted patrons in the lobby after the show. If this happens in NY, be sure to take your little one for a peek.

Good point about the pillows, etc. We sat in the balcony at Lion King, and I had my 4-yr old sit on my lap. Your child will love the show from any seat.
