Never stayed in Lincoln City (prefer Newport or Canon Beach), but there is a good outlet center in LC.

Lincoln City isn't really a very nice beach town. That said, I think the Inn at Otter Crest is nice. Or go north a bit and stay in Neskowin or Pacific City. Check out www.innatcapekiwanda.com for a nice place in Pacific City. I'll be staying there next week!

I agree with the poster above -- Lincoln City really isn't that nice. Unless you have to stay there, try Newport. There will be more tourists, especially in the summer, but there's a reason. Further up the coast is Florence, which can be charming. Cannon Beach is even further north and is very nice. A more out-of-the-way destination would be Astoria, OR. It's all the way at the north tip of the coast. Convenient to Cannon Beach and Seaside, OR (check out the boardwalk) as well as to Long Beach, WA. B&B's in Astoria are plentiful, most in old Victorian houses. My favorite is the Benjamin Young Inn. www.benjaminyounginn.com/

For more Astoria info, check out the following:
http://www.oldoregon.com/
http://www.el.com/to/astoria/
I didn't see that Newport was much more exciting than Lincoln City. We stayed at the Inn at Spanish Head and it was fine. Their restaurant has large windows with sweeping views, and one or two of the staff draw pictures in the sand each morning. Don't know what their summer rates are like though.

I much prefer Newport (cute downtown, wonderful docks to walk on and see all the ships, many different beaches great for walking). However you didn't ask about Newport so places to stay Lincoln City. WestShore Motel has little kitchenettes, recently refurbished. Some have fireplaces. Inn at Spanish Head is nice, right on the beach.

For B&B's I like this site www.bbexplorer.com/

Enjoy your stay

Thanks Everyone! Lots of ideas here. Have debated the where to stay and decided on Lincoln city for the Shopping and Casino for my travelling partner and the beach is the most important for me. I realize the other places are probably much nicer. But will have just arrived from a very quiet laid back resort in Cal. so don't mind too much the hustle/bustle of the little tourist trap. Perhaps will stay only 2 days in Lincoln city and then find one of the quieter places before heading home to BC
Thanks again for all your help
jan

We stayed at the Pelican Shores (Inn?) in Lincoln City this past March. Very clean, nice little kitchen, and on a bluff with stairs down to the beach. had a nice pool as well. I think our suite with 2 queen beds in bedroom and a queen sofabed in living room was $130.
