limos from SFO.....
We are always so beat when we arrive at new destinations and have always received good advice in regards to airport transportation to our hotel. Paris...Rome. THIS time I am having trouble finding out what limo might be the 'favoured' one to get us from SFO to our hotel in Union Square. Yes, I went on the SFO site and found many choices but what do my fellow Fodorites choose? And what might be the current rate for that convenience? I suppose if worse came to worse we can BART it. Age, fatigue and luggage dictate other options might be more appropriate however.

Why not a taxi or Airport Van service?? easier than the Bart. Only because once you get out of the Bart station at Union Sq. you still have to get to your hotel. Do you really need a limo?
|
A taxi is a very good way to get from SFO to Union Sqaure minx. As kleroux said you don't have to decide between a Limo and BART. A taxi will take you directly to your hotel wherein a shuttle will probably have other travellers and so the shuttle will make more than one stop as they let off various passengers. But if you really want a limo hopefully some Fodorites can advise you as to their experiences. Wishing you a wonderful time in San Francisco!

Minx, as you can tell from the couple of "locals" responses so far, car/limo services are simply not as common here as they are in NY and other cities --- taxis are more the "norm". The services do exist, but I don't know if anyone will be able to give you a specific recommendation, unlike in NY where people have their favorite companies and drivers.

Unlike NYC limos are not the preferred transportation to/from SFO. In my experience they cost considerably more than taxis. The only time that a limo might be a good idea here is at rush hour because they charge a flat fare versus a taxi or if you have a large party that cannot be accomodated in a taxivan.

Hi Minx,
I read your request and I had to look back in my old trip report for the info. We were in SF in March of 2005. So, I am not sure if this gentlemen is still in business, but may be worth a try. His name is Roland Velasquez. His phone number is 415-601-7116 and he is RV Limo service. He operated out of the Stanford Court (Marriott Brand) Hotel in SF. We were staying there. He gave us a day tour and up to Muir Woods. He was very nice and knowledgeable on SF. It was easier to take a tour with our two kids (10-12 at the time) and be at our own pace. He was a good driver and hopefully still working his limo business. You can give him a call. He did take us to the airport at the end of our trip. We arranged that after our day tour. Good luck. It is a fun city! |
Thanks everyone for all the help. I suppose we'll just have to check into our flight arrival time and judge whether we'll be into rush hour. If it's anything like Toronto...that consists of most of the day.

San Franciscans seem to love Lorrie's Shuttle. I have no experience with it, but it comes up so often it can't be bad.
A taxi will cost about $40 plus tip, and a shuttle is per person and I hear $15, so I guess it depends upon how many you are and how fast you want to get to your hotel. |
I know a lot of folks who like to use a town car service. You might try Pacific Town Car - I think it's around $50.00 to get from SFO to the city itself, but don't quote me on that. Here's their web site.
www.pacifictowncar.com I myself get really frustrated waiting for the door-to-door vans/shuttle services leaving from SFO - sometimes they leave right away, other times I've just sat there in the van for an hour waiting for it to fill up with enough people. So now, I usually just take BART to the Powell Street station, and then take a cab from there. |
