Limo from Kennedy to E midtown Manhattan?
A group of seven of us including 4 teenage girls need transportation from Kennedy NYC to midtown Manhattan this June. What are our options and is a limo cost effective? Thank you.

Very easy. Seven people means you will need to make arrangements in advance. Other wise it will mean taking two cabs (there is a flat fare per cab from JFK to Manhattan) or putting yourself at the mercy of unliscensed hustlers whose black cars may not be insured.
To find a limo service on line, check the Verizon Superpages at http://yellowpages.superpages.com and look under "Airport Transportation" then call a few to get your best deal for a limo that will carry all of you. |
Use Super Shuttle. These guys are very efficient, but hang on its an "E" ticket ride

The flat cab fare is $45 - plus toll and tip - into the city. So about $55 per cab or $110 for two. Keep this in mind when you get quotes for a limo. Also, realize that cabs are more convenient - no searching for your limo driver and then waiting while he goes to get your car and bring it around from the far distant parking lot. Also - no enormous overtime charges if your plane is late.

This website will describe the basic public transport options
http://www.panynj.gov/aviation/jgtsmain.htm IMO, public transport for a group of 7 makes no sense. You may be able to hire a private van for your party from super shuttle, otherwise get a car service. I normally think a regular taxi is best going from the airport to the city for the same reasons, nytraveler states, but for this size group, you're probably better with a car service that can accomodate all of you. Tel Aviv and Jerusalem are 2 services often mentioned. Remember the current fare for a regular taxi is now $45+ toll & tip. It used to be $35 but has just gone up so as you search, if you see $35 it's old info. |
Seven people would require a full size van (room for 14 passengers) . Check with a car service for cost of a van. You might find out it would probably cost the same for two cabs.

Call your hotel and ask to speak to the bell captain. He will be able to give you a good car service recommendation. Make sure to thank him and give him a tip when you arrive...it can pay off. When I stayed at the Marriott East Side, I ended up chatting with the bell captain fairly often and on my last day, he arranged for me to go to the airport in a brand new limo for the same price as a cab.
