Limited Time in Philly-What to See
 

I will be arriving in Philly just after lunch and will have until lunchtime the following day to see some sites. I'm staying at the Sheraton Society Hill which I believe is walking distance to the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. What all is within walking distance? I love brewpubs.....any that I can walk to?

There are so many things to do in Philadelphia. After the historic sites in downtown, I found the Reading terminal market and Italian market fun to browse and have a casual meal.

I really enjoyed Monk's Cafe- they have hundreds of beers, and fabulous mussels. I never quite figured out the layout of the city, so look here to find the location:

Another place we all enjoyed was Iron Hill Brewery. We went to the one in Media; I believe there a few others.

I know you don't have much time, but I loved the Morris Arboretum and also the odd Mutter Museum.

Here's a walking tour of some of the historic sites that are practically on your hotel's doorstep:

If you want to go into Independence Hall (recommended) you need a timed ticket; you can do this in advance for $1.50 or get a free ticket (probably the morning of your second day.) http://www.nps.gov/inde/independence-hall.htm

Monk's is very popular; it's about a mile plus from your hotel, but if you've worked your way up from that area to the Reading Terminal Market, for instance, you're only a few blocks away. You could get the Market-Frankford train line or the 21 bus back to your hotel: www.septa.org Can't help much with personal recommendations, but just google Philadelphia brewpubs and you'll come up with a lot; for example, Triumph Brewery is a couple of blocks away from you, at 117 Chestnut.

Philadelphia is an extremely walkable city: essentially, Center City is on a grid plan with the numbered streets running N and S (parallel to the river) . The Visitor's Center at 5th and Market is a good stop for getting info. By the way, there aren't a 1st or 14th St: they are known as Front and Broad streets, respectively.

If you are interested in art collections, the Philadelphia Art Museum has one of the best in the country, if not the world. If you are more of a zoo person, the same goes for the Philly Zoo. See either one during your first afternoon, then spend the morning of the next day at Independence Hall and other historical sites.

YOu must go to Reading Terminal Market to have blueberry pancakes at the Amish restaurant! The best I've ever had! The Amish are at the market from Wed through Sat. Hope you will be there one of those days.

If you have time, I recommend dinner at Cuba Libre in Old City. If you don't have time for the Philly Art Museum, I recommend the Rodin Museum, much smaller - you only need an hour. We loved just walking around Society Hill, the historical area, Italian Market, South Street. Philly is a great city!!!
