Lihue and Kahului airports - rental car
what rental car companies are located right at the Lihue (Kauaui) and Kihulai (Maui) airports?
I do not want to take a shuttle to pick up the car....
I am looking at Alamo and Dollar...
thank you

According to www.expedia.com, Hertz shows up as "in terminal/no shuttle" at LIH.
My recollection is that Hertz still must be across the street from the small terminal&baggage claim area, and have not personally used Hertz because of better rates$) with A&D which are located near the airport area, just a couple minutes shuttle ride away.

thanks, Blacktie, for your heads up. I have talked with Island Rental several times, am aware of their "older" cars, but like the idea of renting a classy BMW, and yes, they have charged my card, but already processed a partial refund because their rates went down. I have found them (so far) to be professional and congenial, so we're sticking with them. Hope all goes well. We have heard all the stories.

I've posted this before, but I will continue my crusade against rentacarinmaui.com. A group from my company went last January and we all rented through them and it was a DISASTER. They didn't bring vehicles for two of the people (having lost a car!) and the rest of them were wrecks! Several people refused to keep them (check engine lights, expired plates) or simply the cars were not in good condition. Our car had a broken CD player, expired plates (Ohio), and what looked like bullet holes in the doors. Other coworkers of mine had broken convertible tops, Jeeps that swayed violently, etc.
This is a questionable and at minimum, unprofessional company. Those who refused the cars had a horrid time getting their money back.
DO NOT RENT FROM THEM. Their website is completely deceiving. It was the only bad part of our entire trip to Maui.
