After reading all the posts on the wedding gift thread and seeing how different each region is, the question comes to mind: Does the way one "chills" differ from region to region also? What and where is your favorite way to relax?
Mine is on a beach, preferably the Gulf Coast but the Carolina beaches do in a pinch, with a beach book and lots of good food near-by with no itinerary in mind!

Mine is also with a good book on the beach, also on the Gulf and preferrably Destin.

Living in Nebraska, we're landlocked, so our family's favorite way to chill is on a beach somewhere, preferably in the Caribbean, with no itinerary and no set schedule. Since $$ plays a pretty big part in this, we're not fussy--a great pool at a resort in the States is just fine, too!

Even tbhough we are from Long Island and surrounded by water, our favorite chill out is a beach destination. The closer the room is to the waters edge the better...just can't get enough!

We love the Gulf coast of Florida, Sanible/Captiva or Naples. A large private beach, Comfy beach loungers, great beach service, a bucket of bottled water on ice, frozen margarita, and a book and my laptop- and good food nearby! We really don't plan anything...the big decision is usually what to eat:) or what spa treatment to get.

Life is Good!

I am in California and my favorite way to relax is in the Sierras - sitting by a lake, stream, or meadow, reading a book, playing cards, or just watching the scenery.

My favorite way to relax is sitting on my patio at sunset, overlooking the ocean, engrossed in a good book while sipping a nice glass of wine.

BTW - We call it "limin'" in these parts. ;)

ausc59....like most of the replies I also like the beach..but more so being on the water were fortunate enought to live on cape cod and are surrounded by the ocean.We have a 1974 20 FT seacraft the boats relaxing the scenery of seals and gulls and the sounds of the ocean and sea spray on my face...it makes me feel like AAAAAAHHHhhh......thats as good as it gets for me ..cheriberry

Chilling Montana style: camping in the mountains, grilling steaks and potatoes over the fire, and drinking gin and tonics.

The best way to chill......

The beach, any beach, as long as there is an umbrella, a good book, and a drink in my hand, I don't care where I am.

When a beach is not available.....

I chill on my deck by cranking up the spa and reveing up the blender. :D

Chill? On vacations? Come on, the workdesk is the place to chill, vacations are for activities. And then, when you're tired enough, you relax at work.

Faina honey, vacations are not <i>always </i> relaxing ;) Have you ever read one of my trip reports, LOL!

Chilling and vacation are two different words in my book :D

I am in that camp that chilling and vacations are two different things. Chilling is eithing in the hammock or under the wisteria, both in the backyard. Vacations are for doing things, active things, constantly going. Yes, I think that is fun:D

I'm with Faina - I chill during the workweek. Weekends and vacations are filled with nonstop go go go activities!
The office is the only place (okay, the occasional barstool too) where my butt is firmly planted for more than a couple hours at a time.

I didn't think about chilling being different than a vacation but y'all are right...I like to chill but my husband likes to take vacations!

My husband and I always bring a book on vacation, but we were just noticing this the other day: we've never actually finished a book while on vacation! Only time we read is on the plane. Once we get there, it's exploration time!

Until I got to Fainaagain's post, I thought to myself- what is WRONG with me.

I have never &quot;chilled&quot; on a vacation in my life, not even as a kid.

I look upon vacation as an adventure and activity. I pack 5 lbs of activity into a 2 lbs bag.

The place I go to chill is in Michigan on a inland lake and rife with nature. No blood relation to myself likes beaches, not even to the third generation. We can't stand the grit, sandy feeling or being out in the blistering sun like that doing nothing. It must be genetic because we love to swim.

I read a lot at the lake and I entertain a lot as well. And I cook and play Scrabble by the hour. We have tournaments. That's how we chill. Preferably with a Sox game going in the background.

To each his own and enjoy your chill regardless.

ausc59, &quot;limin'&quot; is pronounced &quot;lime-in.&quot; It is an often used Caribbean word for chilling and hanging out. Down here you hear many people say, &quot;we's jus limin, mon.&quot;

I forgot to add that our vacations are typically packed full of things to do and see, but we do relax &quot;some&quot; when away. We just don't relax too much when we travel because we get enough of that here at home. :)

<font color="blue">Chill</font> these days is lying in the hammock out in the yard reading or day dreaming.
Vacation chills usually take place in a park, or in a cafe with a glass of wine ..
Beach chills at home are long walks with Pup and the Yankee.
We are moving soon and we will have a whole new Chill repertoire! Can't wait :)
