Let's talk about the weather.
 

Here in Massachusetts we have been having the stormiest weather I recall in my 40something years here. It seems at least a few days a week nearly all summer long we have had violent thunder/lightning/wind/rain storms. If I had to guess it is at least 4 days a week that we have severe weather alerts.

How about the rest of the country? Are you having unnatural weather?

Same here in upstate NY gyppie. I swear it clouds up and thunders and lightenings at some point every day!!! It's the weirdest thing. It definitely feels very unusual.

Aside from rain we got from Dolly and Eduardo, we've had practically no rain. Relentless sun, day after day after day! 99, 98, 99, 99, 99. When Eduardo approached it got CLOUDY...that was exciting! Wow...clouds. That lasted half a day.

Is that average weather for your area OO?

This seems like more of a lounge conversation.

According to weatherunderground, the average high this time of year is 94. That sounds a little low from my experience these past couple of years. Yes, it's generally very dry...days and days with no clouds. Having grown up in MA, I know that's hard to imagine! :)

If you have experienced the bizarre weather I have experienced in the past two months....this is a US discussion, because it is a phenomena to me. And weather patterns across our country that may be changing climatically is important to me and travelers.

Why you suggest this belongs in the lounge where most US travelers will never visit is beyond me.

It still belongs in the lounge. It isn't directly related to travel.

I know you want to chit-chat about the weather, which is a fine albeit pointless exercise, but the Lounge is the perfect place for pointless exercises and chit-chat.

For those considering travel to the Pacific Northwest, I can report that we are having our usual idyllic summer...not too hot, not too humid, with thunderstorms only occasionally in the foothills of the Cascades. Aaahhh...paradise!

For those traveling to San Antonio, it is as I described above. ;) I just spent a week in FL and another week 11 degress off the equator a week prior to that, and both places were far, far, far cooler than it is here.

And those headed to MA, especially the Berkshires, from areas like this...you simply can't imagine how cool it can get. We were always going up unprepared and were always borrowing my parents' jackets. jackets in the summertime. Hard to imagine.

Here's an odd travel weather fact. Carriacou, where I just was, and Curacao, are about on the same latitude, but Curacao has their rainy season from October to March, and Carriacou from June to December. I don't get it. Oops...that belongs in the Caribbean forum. My apologies. :)

Napa Valley--much cooler than usual--One HOT spell first days of July--since then..Mild-mild- mild.
74s to 80---evening low 50s..Usually August averages mid to high 80s with evenings cooling to 60s.
SF foggy and windy untill at least noon---then high of 68 !!! this "normal" for SF...until late Sept.-October--Then the great weather---Mid 70s- no fog-beautiful "balmy" evenings
If one gets tired of this weather---drive one hour east to Sacramento and you can swelter in 90s to 100 or 104 and "cools" down to 78-80s at night..My husband went to Sac. State there--couldn't wait to get back to bay area

When I have had 3 violent thunderstorms in 24 hours and the whole summer has had record breaking violent weather.....

Well, i observe during daily TRAVELs around here in Sonoma County, fog until noon - sun til 4 or 5, then the fog returns, very typical. This pattern started atypically late for us. We were rather on the toasty side until 10 days ago. Kind of surprised to see Napa is now cool as well

No complaints from me, although I wouldn't mind a bit of rain.

I do miss PM thunderstorms from AZ & CO,but it would be best I TRAVELLED to them due to all our fires.

I'm in NH, and it's the same as Mass. I feel like we're living in the rain forest. It's been a relentless summer, not just rain, but fierce thunder and lightening storms with driving rains. The kind of storms where, even as an adult, you get scared!

There's been A LOT of house and property damage in NH over the past few weeks - very sad to see people lose everything they own.

Isn't this global warming wet??

I'm from the UK and do think this is relevant info.

We have noticed the weather changes on our last couple of trips to USA.

We went round NY state finger lakes early last Sept and had (mostly)horrible weather i.e lots of rain and coolish temps.

Went to new England early Oct and had very iffy weather then as well.

I know one does not visit a country purely based on weather BUT it is very important to us.

It's a long way to travel and to arrive and its awful weather, well, it does put a damper on hols.

Maybe its because of ones expectations in that the UK is known for it rainy summers etc But the parts of USA we picked are not (usually) known for bad weather.

I am visiting Colorado this Begin Sept and have been monitoring weather there and i must say at moment it seems everywhere is getting thunder storms and some rain daily...

I mean if i want to tour a beautiful place with lots of rain might as well stay in UK...

So I for one am glad to get feedback on the weather from US locals.
