Letchworth State Park and Finger Lakes?

Hi all,

Thinking about a weekend road trip from Cleveland to the Finger Lakes, and wondering how feasible it is to include a stop at Letchworth State Park for a short hike. Is it worth it to combine the two, or better to plan a visit to Letchworth at another time? We haven't decided where we'll be staying yet in the Finger Lakes, but will probably include visits to Corning and Watkins Glen in the weekend, as well as wineries.

Thanks

If you are planning a trip to the Finger Lakes this summer or fall you should get reservations asap. Weekends are incredibly busy, you may not even be able to get weeekend resrvations for Sept or Oct at this late date. There are lots of B&B in the area, a couple chain hotels and lots of small Mom & Pop motels. Just depends on what you are looking for. Letchworth is about 1-3/4 hours from Watkins Glen, which is convinient to Corning and lots of wineries. There are a couple of other nice parks to hike that are close to Watkins Glen. Taughannock Falls near Ithaca or the Watkins Glen Gorge. Let me know if you would like any more specific info.

For a weekend trip, I'd suggest skipping Letchworth and instead spend the time in Watkins Glen State Park. It is really a beautiful park and the hike along the gorge is wonderful.
We have stayed numerous times in Watkins Glen and enjoy being able to walk to dinner and to the lakefront.

Many of my favorite wineries are located on Seneca & Keuka Lakes - be sure to check out Lamoreaux Landing, McGregor, Amberg Cellars to name a few.

Thanks for these replies. I think it might be best to skip Letchworth as well. If we decide to stay in Watkins Glen, any suggestions?

There are several B&B and small motels in the Watkins Glen area. Glenora winery has a beautiful Inn (about 10 minutes from Watkins Glen.) You could check out http://www.schuylerny.com
Geneva is about 35 miles from Watkins Glen at the north end of Seneca Lake. They have a Ramada and Hampton Inn. Penn Yan (about 20 minutes from WG) on Keuka Lake has a Best Western and again lots of B&B's in the area. When are you planning to travel?
