Less than 30 hours in Seattle
 

I will be flying into Seattle on business next thursday afternoon and flying out on the Friday evening red-eye. Have an evening and a morning to see Seattle before a 2pm meeting. Any advice on what to see? I will be downtown at probably the Sheraton. Any nice restaurants that cater to single travelers?

For restaurants, I like Etta's, Wild Ginger, and Palace Kitchen would be a good place for a single traveler because the small place is always hopping. You might just like to walk around in the evening if the weather is decent and perhaps take in Jazz Alley if you'd enjoy a noisy jazz club. The Mariners play Cleveland Thursday evening, and our ballpark is a place to behold, rain or shine thanks to the retractable roof (if you like the game). That one day Friday is just too wide open to choose. If no car and you've already walked around town, I think I would head down to the waterfront and take the ferry to Winslow on Bainbridge Island for lunch at Cafe Nola. This trip is mostly for the views and getting out on the water. With car, normally I would say Mount Rainier, but that would be a full day and you may not want to get that far from the airport. If you are from a place without mountains, get up early and drive to Sunrise on Mt. Rainier.

If you only have the morning on Friday (before your meeting) then head as early as possible to the Pike market and spend most of the morning there - numerous places for breakfast or noshing, shopping, viewing, etc. The market is at its best first thing in the morning IMO.<BR><BR>The evening before, head to Pioneer Square for numerous eating, drinking and music opportunities. Or, the baseball game is a great idea - have the garlic fries and you will be the hit of your meeting the next afternoon. An alternative is to check into the hotel, then walk on the Bainbridge ferry to Winslow for a meal at the Harbour Public House (5 min. walk from the ferry) - the sunset rides across the Sound are awesome experiences, the food and beer are good, and singles are normally present.

Not mentioning Pike Place market before was a real oversight on my part. It's a must.

The Brooklyn is a great place to eat if you are by yourself. Grab a seat at the bar and let them help you order fantastic fresh raw oysters, steak, etc. I'm not a fan of the Sheraton but it is a good location. Another great place to eat on your own is Marco's Supper Club- again the bar is perfect and the staff great!<BR><BR>If you like art the Lawerence exhibit at the SAM is very powerful. Or grab a movie at the Cinerama- an old theater in downtown that Paul Allen has completely redone, the screen is huge!
