LegoLand Florida

My family is staying in Fort Myers for a week and we plan to drive to LegoLand for two days at the end of our trip before driving home to Ohio. The LegoLand Hotel is not open until June so I am asking for advice on where to stay the two nights we will be visiting LegoLand. My first priority is cleanliness! I have three boys under 5 and would also like a hotel that is child friendly (fun pools, etc.) I started to look in Orlando, it's just a little overwhelming, so any advice or recommendations is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for your help:)

I forgot to mention we are planning to go to LegoLand April 9-10, 2015.

Lego Land is in Winter Haven, a 45-60 minute drive from Orlando. Do you want to stay in Orlando, and just drive to Lego Land one day, or do you plan to visit Lego Land both days? If the latter, it would make more sense to sty in Winter Haven.

If I were you I would stay in Winter Haven, there is a Hampton Inn and a Holiday Inn on Cypress Gardens Blvd, that is very close to LegoLand, there are lots of family friendly restaurants close by and the traffic will not be nearly as bad as Orlando. I live 20 minutes from LegoLand. Safe travels!

Look at the Omni Resort at Championsgate or the Wyndham Grand resort at Reunion. Nice hotels and not to far a drive from LegoLand. They are both about midway between Orlando and Winter Haven.

Thank you for your suggestions. I hadn't read very encouraging reviews about the holiday inn and Hampton inn which is why I was looking in Orlando. I will definitely check out the hotels located between Orlando and Winter Haven!

Winter Haven is really more old-style rural Florida, despite recent growth and the conversion of Cypress Gardens into LegoLand - so that Hampton and Holiday Inn are pretty much top of the heap until the LegoLand Hotel opens. And 45-60 minutes is probably overly optimistic for any type of Orlando commute.

I suggest you look along Highway 27 north from Winter Haven. There is the intersection of I-4 and 27 (Haines City), and a bit farther north is the intersection of 192 and 27 - that's Kissimmee (west) area and where a lot of the timeshares and the outlying Disney-area hotels are found.

Then wave as you go by - we live at the intersection of 27 and 50 (Clermont). Have fun!

There is also a brand new Best Western in Auburndale on US 92. My sister has stayed there and it was nice.

I just think if you stay in Orlando you will spend in my opinion 3 hours a day in the car, on a good day!

I'm not sure if this helps anyone but the Legoland Florida Hotel is now open. I walked through the lobby as me and my family were heading to the the park. It's very well themed and I can't wait to stay the night there. I visit Legoland a lot and I use this site which is fully dedicated to the park http://legolandinflorida.com/forums/ in case anyone is interested. According to the site it has 4 themed rooms, a lobby with Lego "pits" for the kids to play in while the parents get checked in. There is also a zero entry pool with floating Lego bricks and best of all if you stay there you get to enter the park earlier before the general crowd!
