Leaving LaGaurdia
What is the cheapest/fastest way to get from LaGaurdia ariport to Manhattan?
|
Cheapest might be the shutle, but it will stop at every hotel. I recommend a taxi!!
|
I like car services during the week and taxis on weekends. With a car service, you know exactly how much it will cost in advance. In a taxi, you may find yourself stuck behind a wreck with the meter ticking away. Traffic congestion is enough lower on weekends to make a taxi more likely to be cheaper.

What is your destination in Manhattan? For a combination fastest/cheapest, I'd pick one of the airport buses if your destination is in the midtown area and you could walk to your destination from where the bus lets you off.

Anyone have suggestions for the best option if the hotel (Becaon) is on the Upper West Side?
|
To the Hotel Beacon, I'd take a taxi.

Cheapest and fast4est are anitthetical. Cheapest is to take the city bus into Manhattan (125th St) and then take subway or bus to the hotel. This will cost $4 each - and can take from an hour up - way up. Also-- you have to deal with luggage on city bus and subway.
A cab to the Beacon will be about $30 - and will take from 30 minutes, depedning on traffic. The SuperShuttle is about $15 per person - and takes forever, since they stop at muliple hotels - in city traffic. There is also a shuttle to Port Authority or Grand Central (similar price) but then you have to go back uptown by bus or sbuway or cab. So savings will be little - and time longer. Frankly - unless you're a student with a backpack the only thing that makes sense to the upper west side is a cab. |
Actually, you can do it for $2--the transfer from city bus to subway mentioned is made on the same fare. But this method can be tedious and annoying . . .

I looked up cab prices from LaGuardia to Manhatten, and they now charge a flat fee of $45 not including tolls and tip. So you are talking $50 on up. I found this information on the actual new york yellow cab website but... I can't find it at the moment...
Here is a website that lists all of your options, but I think it's a little outdated since it says the cost for a cab is $16-$26. http://www.ny.com/transportation/airports/LGA.html#taxi |
strawberryrhubarbpie, the taxi flat fare is from JFK, not LGA.
LGA to and from Manhattan is still metered and will indeed cost about $30 as others have mentioned. |
ok I found it, but the flat fee is from JFK not LaGuardia my bad... but I did call my hotel and ask them and they told me that it was going to cost around $40 so that's probably why I got them confused. Here's the link!

Cab fare from LGA will depend on where the hotel is. The Beacon is on the UWS - near LGA. If your hotel is far downtown it might cost $40. It shouldn't cost that much to up or midtown - unless you're stuck in horrific traffic.

Michelle, We did a "girls day trip" to NYC last month and did the city bus to subway for the 1st time... it was super easy.
We took the airport bus from Delta terminal at LGA to the main terminal and purchased an "all day fare" (bus/subway) for $7.00 from the newspaper store. We then went back outside to catch city bus to the subway in Queens. The trip into town took about 1 hour. Then for our way back we took the subway to 125th in Harlem and caught the city bus back to LGA. The return took on 45 minutes. very quick! So... our entire transportation for the day was only $7.00 each. If you have lots of luggage, this may not be the best way to travel into the city, but if you only have a roll-aboard and are looking for a cheap way into town this would be a great way to go. |
Michelle, You can also contact one of the car services- www.carmel.com is one that we have used before. They charge a flat rate so you are not in for a suprise in case of traffic etc. You call them when you land and they are waiting for you once you claim your bags and walk outside. They picked us up in a black towncar with a very professional driver. Some of the taxi cab drivers make me very nervous with their driving- I wonder how long them have been in the country before taking a job as a taxi driver...
Enjoy your trip!! |
