Leaving in 3 weeks - weather questions
 

I am "officially" starting to worry. We leave for Alaska in less than 3 weeks and I've been checking the weather channel website daily to see if I can get an idea on the weather trends.
So far all I've seen for Homer and Seward is rain EACH and EVERY DAY!
Is this typical? When they say rain are we talking all day long or brief showers? I've also been checking the webcam at Major Marine cruises' website and I never see the sun shinning!! Is this lack of sunshine typical as well??

I know to expect some rain, but I was hoping for some clear crisp autumn air as well...

Anyone have experience they'd care to share or have been to Homer / Seward recently???

Welcome to Alaska. Your worries won't change a thing. Be prepared. Bring rain gear and have a great time. There is usually more rain in Alaska but who knows? You may have lots of sunshine or 50% chance of rain or sunshine. Try to relax and go shopping for Gortex. Bring lots of warm clothes. Be happy, you are going to Alaska! remember rain brings more food for wildlife. Alaska is very green because of lots of rain and snow. Have a great trip!

I should say, there is usually more rain in September than any other summer months but who knows.

You are checking the weather forecast three weeks in advance? Don't waist your time, be prepared for any kind of weather after all you are going to Alaska and not Caribbean

We had the most wonderful vacation to Alaska mid-July, but we did encounter rain in Homer and Seward. It rained all day long for a week. It was a windy, drizzling rain. 2 of our 3 charter boat fishing trips were cancelled, and we weren't able to fish at all in Seward. (One thing I learned was not to buy any one-day fishing licenses until the morning of each trip!) When it rains, everything is MUDDY and WET. You really do need weatherproof shoes/boots and hooded rain gear, even just dashing between your car and lodging. It was chilly, mid 50's most of the time we were there. We enjoyed seafood or halibut chowder and hot cocoa often! But we didn't mind a bit- Alaska is SO breathtaking in beauty and splendor, rain or shine it is the trip of a lifetime. Have a wonderful time!

Alaska weather is unpredictable. Shouldn't be the first time you've heard this. :) Go well prepared then it won't matter and have a great time. :)

jfmkem, I had the same worry before my AK trip. But the weather turned out really gorgeous--sunny, blue skies everywhere, except in one place that's known for its rains.

Just go prepared. Also check accuweather.com. Its prediction of sunshine was contrary to all the other websites that I checked, and it turned out to be correct.

I had the same worry too--and it did turn out to be cloudy at lot of the time. But it was still wonderful. The light is really amazing up there. Looking back at our pictures, the clouds just made it that much more spectacular!

And maybe we were lucky with this, but when it rained it really wasn't that bad. You could just put on your rain clothes and enjoy all the outdoor activities.

Thank you all for your thoughts. I spoke to the owner of the B&B we are staying at in Homer and she mentioned that the amount of rain they were getting was not normal. Hopefully this trend won't continue to much longer. I bit of rain is good...rain like for Noah is not good.
