Leave for Oregon on Wednesday...
What to pack? Weather.com says highs in the high 70s or low 80s for the areas I'm going to. Its been so long since I've felt weather that cool (summer in Texas...) Is this short sleeve weather or thin long sleeve t-shirt weather? Does it get cool/cold at night? (Going to Columbia Gorge, coast, Portland). Any help appreciated, since all I've worn since May is flip flops and shorts. :)

Go to the National Weather Service site http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/pqr/ put the zip code or city and state into the "Local Forecast" search box and you'll get specific info. I searched on Newport (on the coast) and NWS was forecasting highs in the low 60s, overnight lows in the 50s for the coming week. I'm guessing that's going to feel pretty darn chilly to you. :-)

hard to say, because things are really changing right now, day to day. I'm in Seattle but going down 2 hrs. south of Portland next weekend. I'm packing for summer but with a few long sleeves and a lightweight jacket added. Especially if you are going to be in the countryside after dark, it's really cooling down in the evenings. It's been sunny and clear no rain lately.

Fleece, baby fleece.

Here you go, sformby. We left Portland for Cannon Beach yesterday at 1:30pm, when the temp was 94. Got to Cannon Beach at 3:00pm where the temp was about 80. Two hours later it was around 60. Not much help to you, I know, but you should expect pretty much the same, maybe just dialed down a notch.

I'm not sure where BBQboy is writing from BUT you don't need fleece yet unless you are going to the mountains or out on the water at night. It is still HOT, we are still wearing shorts and tank tops. Fans are on, windows are open...

Sheesh. Sounds like I'll take a little bit of everything! Thanks y'all. Not looking forward to the flight much, but eager to get there!

Tonights forecast here in Portland was sunny and temps in the 80s up until Thursday.
It does get cooler at night but it feels great after a day of sun and heat. The coast is always cooler with damp cool wind..which sounds good to me , I am actually getting tired of all this sunshine lol. Just bring a couple of cotton sweaters and a long sleeve tee or two .. It is definitely going to be cool compared to Texas ~ Have a good trip! |
Truly, just bring a little bit of everything. Hopefully the weather will hold. It has been absolutely gorgeous this 3day weekend.
Thinking back to my other post, i change my mind, you very well might want a fleece or at least a jacket for evenings on the coast or along the Gorge. |
Suze, I'm in the Rogue Valley, but I was thinking about evening beach walks when I mentioned fleece. I'm almost always cold at the coast, it seems. Do they allow fleece in Texas? Maybe a stop at REI or something similar is warranted upon our Tejas friends' arrival in P-Town.

Makes sense. Always cooler along the coast or out in the country in the evenings, than I get here in the city.
|
Thanks, all. I am off to pack for 3 seasons now! ;) Think I'll just stick in my waterproof "travel jacket" for safety.
|
It is sooooo warm today!! I hope it does cool off, much better for sightseeing.
Have a great time, Welcome to Oregon, sformby! |
Warm in Oregon, who ever heard of such?! LoL It's WARM in Louisiana! All relative, isn't it? :) I would love a fall trip to Oregon.
I hope you will come back to Fodors with a trip report after your vacation, sformby! |
