Least crowded ski area
 

Which would be the least crowded ski area on a Sunday in late Feb: Solitud, Brighton, Snowbird, Alta? I'm a skiier and not a snowboarder, if that makes a difference. <BR>Thanks, Greg

I think Solitude &amp; Brighton would be less crowded than Alta or Snowbird. I'd recommend Solitude over Brighton (only by a little bit) just because Brighton caters more to boarders.<BR><BR>I DID go to Solitude on a Sunday in Feb a few years back, and it really wasn't bad at all. Alta &amp; Snowbird are the ones that really get the weekend crowds, as I understand it. &amp; Alta has limited uphill lift capacity...this keeps the slopes uncrowded (good) but means you will wait in lift lines on a busy day (bad).<BR><BR>I hope you are there on a weekday as well and get to Alta - that is my absolute favorite resort....actually, if you ONLY have the one day, you might want to fight the lift lines just to get to Alta...but if you're there for a number of days &amp; just want to know what to do on the weekend day - I'd say you'll have the best luck at Solitude.

I think I'll take your advise and do Solitude. I've never been there, but if it's in the Wasatch Range, it's got to be good. I'll be skiing Sun-Fri, so I figured the Mon-Fri wouldn't be a problem anywhere. Yes, Alta is a classic and I'll definitely go; will probably do all 4, but I want to avoid lines-they can come close to souring the experience. Thanks, Greg

If you have transportation and don't mind some drive time, I'd recommend Snow Basin or Powder Mountain, two ski areas in the mountains east of Ogden (north of SLC). We haven't skiied there since the Olympics, but they remain the most undeveloped, undiscovered ski areas in the Wasatch. Plus, they're a bit of a haul for tourists, so few go there. Great heli skiing (cheap too) out of Snow Basin. Since you're not hitting President's Day weekend, the crowds shouldn't be outrageous wherever you go. I'd second Solitude if you want to stay nearby. (Sundance, up Provo canyon, also tends to get far fewer crowds, but check snow conditions, as they get quite a lot less than we do. Very small, scenic area with artsy feel). Have fun!!

Thanks Natalie, I know you're right about Snowbasin/Powder - I've researched them and would like to go, but I'm not renting a car. Skiing is an expensive sport -so I'm staying in an Extended Stay in Midvale and catching the bus up the canyons. It's a litte more hassle and does limit my movement, but it pockets &gt;$500. Makes me want to move to Salt Lake, so I can realize those jewels that the masses don't know about. Gp
