Le Parker Meridien
 

Hello fellow fodorites!

I was just curious if anyone has any experience with Le Parker Meridien in Midtown Manhattan. I'm thinking about staying there with 4 people for a long weekend in December....and no matter where I look, there seems to be a fair share of both horrid and excellent reviews. However, when looking at the hotel site, it looks extremely nice. In addition to that, Fodor's notes it for being a good child-friendly and luxurious hotel.

Can anyone help clear up what the hotel is really like?

It's very nice! Plush and luxurious, but not overly snotty. You'll be quite happy.

it's very nice, pay no mind to the negative reviews. great area as well. best burgers in new york are in the lobby. just follow your nose... ;-)

yes otto. I've heard PLENTY about those burgers... my stomach is growling just thinking about them! =P~

If i am to stay there, is the view of central park (versus the city view of a traditional room) worth the extra $50?

I was there a year or two ago and it was great. Smallish rooms, but very nice. Staff was friendly. And definitely do not miss the burgers!!

It's been a cpl years since we stayed there but really enjoyed the property. The pool on the roof is very cool.

The location is terrific. I think the only thing that makes it child friendly are the restaurants though. They have restrictions on when kids can use the pool. Rooms are relatively small and I don't think you can fit 4 people in 1 room (unless you get some sort of suite). Furniture always strikes me as early dorm room. I would not call the hotel plush - more modern. Whether the park view is worth $50/night to you is not something we can judge.

If you are a family with 2 kids, I'd pick some place with bigger rooms or a suite hotel.

the view? eh, i'd rather walk through the park though $50 doesn't seem to break the bank. re: the burgers, go at about 11:40 am, and you can expect at least a 25 minute line. later in the afternoon (after 2:30ish) the lines will be about the same. if you go in the throws of lunch rush, the line can almost be 40 minutes. (worth it!) while you wait, keep your eye out on a table, and have someone from your party grab the table if/when it is available, it's every man for himself!and don't miss the fries either.

I stayed here last year for one night. I had read the same wish-washy reviews and I was a little nervous. I even posted something on this board (I think).

Don't worry, you will like this hotel. I found the rooms much bigger than I expected. I think they upgraded me as I checked in, but still they were large.

I found the check-in and dealing with the staff just fine, probably even nicer than I expected after reading the reviews. The doormen were always helpful hailing a cab.

I found that the hotel was very clean and up to my standards - so no worries there.

I stuck my head in the burger joint (I had to ask the front desk how to find it) and it made me sad that I didn't have time for a burger.

We also had breakfast at the restaurant here - expensive (typicaly NY) but very good.

The one thing that always threw me was the lobby. All the walls were covered with mirrors so I couldn't tell if I was coming or going - but that was a minor point.
