LBI after labor day
 

We were trying plan a last minute Labor Day weekend beach getaway and it is not a surprise that everything is booked! Given that, we thought about going to LBI in mid-September. I know the crowds will be gone, but will the amusements be open for our two kids and the beach still warm? We would be going for the weekend only.

Beach will still be lovely. Amusements will most likely be open weekends.

You'll be very lucky to find a room. The season now seems to extend through September.

The beach is great in September and water is still warm. You will have lower likelyhood of high 80's/low 90's temps. On windy days when the temp is in the high 70s (as happened to me 2 weeks ago) the beach can seem chilly, so you might be hit or miss on the weather since you are only there for2 days. I find that some cooler but still sunny days are great for sand castles and shelling, even if you wear a long sleeve shirt or light jacket.

Were the kids not in school I'd go for a week in Sept myself.

Fall is a fantastic time to be in LBI. Weather is nice, water temperatures are generally warmer, it's not crowded. Most of the kids are gone (ok I have no kids and peaceful does not equal kids in my book).

Season is getting longer. LBI's Chowderfest is always the first weekend in October. I think Country Kettle is open all year long. (I could be wrong). We love their chowder best!

I think people forget about the beaches between Labor Day and Memorial Day.

September is one of the most gorgeous months for beaches on the entire east coast.

Hey J62, guess what! I met my husband of 29 years at the Country Kettle Fudge Shop. He was the manager (boy was I impressed) and I was a Waffle Girl at the Waffle Shop. Sweet love story!

And fall is the best - I'm bringing eight of my girlfriends for a weekend in November, we still have a family home there. Lia, if you go, you must check out Gino's Italian Riviera. Doesn't look like much, but the food is the real deal.

Spent many summer weeks in Beach Haven as a kid, and recently started taking my own kids back there. Much is the same, and a lot is different. Many of the cookie cutter houses from the 50s are unchanged, but there are a lot of McMansions going up too.

Country Kettle plays this hokey video outside the store explaining how they make the fudge (you can watch the guys inside - they definitely have their eyes open for girls. It's funny to watch 4 or 5 of them chat away, mixing the fudge, then all will get quiet and their eyes will follow some hot girl walk by outside.

My kids roll their eyes when I tell them we're going to watch the video and fudge making, but they never tire of getting a pound of maple walnut and a pound of chocolate.

We climb Barnegat lighthouse every summer, and I always get an elephant ear or 2 at the bakery.

Great! this makes me feel better. I think I will plan for the weekend of the 16th, if I can find something. I will keep my fingers crossed.

CD don't feel bad, I have heard people talk about it for years and I didn't know what it was. Only a close friend went there recently and I figured it out.

We are going to LBI for Labor Day (brother has a house across the causeway), but last year we went in mid-September and it was really nice. No crowds and gorgeous weather.

Sept. is the BEST month of the year for the shore in my opinion. Most of the crowds are gone, the traffic is much better and the water is finally warm enough to swim in. LBI is a great place, and most all stores remain open. Prices should also be less. Have a great time.

Why not just call it Long Beach Island so people have a better chance of figuring out what you are talking about.

Anybody qualified to give advice about Long Beach Island knows what LBI stands for when they see it.

And they know it's "down the shore" and not at the beach when you're talking about the Jersey Shore too. :)

Going to LBI (Surf City) for Labor Day Weekend. Can't wait. A big ol' pot of steamers from Boulevard Clams for lunch. It doesn't get any better than that. Does anyone know what the water temps are running?

2 weeks ago temp was mid 70s. At least 75, maybe 76. Warmer than I've felt it in years. Very comfortable to hang out in.
