Layover, any suggestions?
 

We will be flying to LGA, arriving at 12:00. Then we depart from JFK at 5:45 that evening. From what I can tell, the airports aren't too far from one another. Is there anything neat to see or do close by, and would we have enough time? I realize this could be during rush hour...

The trip from LGA to JFK should be less than 30 minutes with no traffic, but leave an hour for the likely event that their will be traffic. When do you have to check-in for your 5:45 flight? For some international flights it may be 90 minutes or 2 hours in advance. Close to LGA is Shea Stadium, if your a baseball fan, a major tennis stadium, and Flushing Meadow Park, former sight of 1964 world's fair, with a science museum, zoo and playgrounds, all most appropriate for kids. The Museum of Modern Art is now in Queens, about a half hour out of your way. The borough of Queens, where both airports are located, is largely residential. If you have never been to Manhattan, you can ask the cabbie for a driving tour.

NYC LGA JFK

My crude & probably inaccurate map is an attempt to show logistics are not in your favor. LGA is VERY close to the city but in the wrong direction for JFK. You will have luggage I presume. If you're taking an international flight you have to check-in by 3:45 the latest.

IF you can check your luggage to your final destination and IF you can get your JFK boarding pass from your origination point, you could squeeze in an hour of something (NYC, MOMA in Queens, Science museum). Otherwise no

whoops, my "map" didn't post properly. The point I was trying to make is NYC is west of LGA & JFK is east. Nothing much around JFK.

IT IS 10 miles from LGA to JFK. A taxi will take anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes depending on traffic. There is a shuttle service and you can get information at www.panynj.gov.

I travel on that route regularly and can attest to the fact it can take and hour during heavy traffic, which can happen all too frequently on the Graqnd Central Parkway and the Van Wyck Expressway ('expressway' being a misnomer during rush hour).
