layover

I am flying from Tampa to india. .Tampa to JFK(newyork) is operated by jetblue then by eithad from newyork to abudhabi, jet airways from abudhabi to india. i have only 1 hour 20 min layover time in JFK, 1 hour 30 min layover in abudhabi while going. Is this time enough???

Welcome to Fodors naves. That is a very tight connection at JFK - especially if you have to collect your bags. I don't know if JetBlue has an interline agreement with Eithad. You might want to also post this on the Air Travel forum. (See the 'Change Forum" pull down menu)

naves? interline? Welcome to Autocorrect, lol.

Sorry about the autocrorrect on your screen name :(

But NewbE - What are you on about? Yes -- interline . . . That is what its called when one airline has an agreement to check luggage through on another airline . . .

I'd be much more concerned about checking in on-time than I would be about getting to the gate before departure. If you have a 1:20 layover at JFK that is plenty of time to get gate to gate, but you really only have about 20-40min total to get fully checked in, depending on the cut-off times.

The good news is JetBlue and Etihad have more than an interline baggage agreement - they are partner airlines.

And Etihad is owner, or part owner of Jet...

So, chances are good you can
a) check your bags all the way to India, and just as important
b) check-in/get boarding passes, at least JetBlue + Etihad.

The big IF, is if these are purchased on a single ticket, or a series of separate purchases. If you can check-in on either Etihad or Jet online before you leave TPA then you'll be in better shape. To many unknows here to give you a clear answer.

If your flights are ontime (and as long as this is a single ticket), you probably have enough time to make the connection, but you will have to deplane and change terminals at JFK (5 to 4). That alone can take 30 minutes. Then you have to go through security again. You will NOT have to check in for your JetBlue flight; it's a simple change of planes and terminals.

I'm sure this is a "legal" connection, but I had to have 2 plane changes. But then again, there just aren't any nonstop flights from Tampa to India.

doug, op's

flight 1 - TBA to JFK = jet blue
flight 2 - JFK to Abu Dhabi - Ethiad
flight 3 - Abu Dhabi to india - Jet

so they do have to make sure they are checked in with Etihad, either with jet blue in TPA, online before they get to JFK, or at JFK.

When are you coming into JFK? If at a busy time - their on-time rate is not good - and I would never accept this small a window - even with a single ticket and partner airlines - since it would screw up your ongoing ticket.

If you were just flying to London (a bunch of flights every day) and staying there for several days I would not be so worried - but you have another tight connection following.

I would back up and start out a lot earlier. But then I am risk averse.
