LAX to PSP (Palm Springs)

I have read some of the threads regarding the best routes from LAX to Palm Springs/Desert Airport. However, the directions I am getting from the websites is as follows:
Take ramp onto I-105 - go 17.0 mi
4. Take ramp onto I-605 - go 10.0 mi
5. Take ramp onto CA-60 - go 40.9 mi
6. Continue on I-215 - go 4.9 mi
7. I-215 becomes CA-60 - go 18.1 mi
8. Take ramp onto I-10 - go 18.3 mi
9. Take ramp onto CA-111 - go 11.3 mi

Does this make sense, or is there a better way from getting there. I am planning on driving there around 3pm. on Sunday. On the way back I am planning on driving around 6 in the morning (Sunday).
Please advise.

Oh boy, there are lots of ways to get there! The one suggested is not bad. Another option is to continue on the 605 to the 10, then you can stay on it all the way out there. There's also the 91, but I don't recommend that one at the moment.

I drive there often from West LA. The easiest (and fastest if there are no accidents) from LAX is:
405 N to 10 East
Take 10 East all the way into Palm Srings (Highway 111).
Should take about 2.5 hours if you follow speed limit.

I disagee about the 405, traffic on it is horrid.
The 105 to the 605 to the 10 (or the 60) will almost certainly be faster.

Funny thing, RBCal, my problem with Sheila's route is the 10 through downtown LA-- not the 405! I will say that the 405 balls up just north of LAX through Palms (just before you take the 10 east). But the 10 through LA-- it can be a nightmare!

On a Sunday, however, it shouldn't matter all that much. Traffic shouldn't be horrible heading out of LA. Heading in, on the other hand....

Just to throw in another way is to take the 105 to the 605, go south a mile to the 91. We do take the dreaded 91, but always leave the airport area by 10 am so don't hit traffic, unless there is an accident.
8-)

MBnancy: Have they finished that construction on the CA-91/CA-60 interchange in Corona? That's the thing I'd be leery of. But I love the drive through the mountains on the 60!

There are TONS of different ways to get there!! But I agree that the 405 can be bad. I try to stay off the 405 as often as I can!

Just to confirm, I am more confudes now. So would you guys reccomend me to get on the I-105 to I 605 and stay on that till I-10. Also, is this I-105 east or west, I-605 east or west and 1-10 east or west.
Thanks

I don't know familiar you are with Los Angeles freeway-doesn't sound like you are. First of all the 105 and the 10 run east and west, the 605 runs north and south. I would try to make the route as easy as possible without switching to so many freeways. The easiest route to take would be the 405 north to I-10 east and stay on the 10 all the way to Palm Springs. The downtown interchange shouldn't be bad on Sunday. However the 405 is always backed up-I think the worst traffic jam I was ever in on the 405 was a Saturday (and there was no accident).

Therefore, if you don't want to take the 405 north to I-10 east, the other alternative would be:
105 east
605 north
10 east.

Forget taking the 60 and the 215 through Riverside. They have been doing construction there for years and though it's a little bit better, it can still be a mess. Also, avoid the 91 freeway.
