LAX to Palm Springs

Anybody know of way to get from LAX to the Palm Springs area without renting a car?

I found this by Googling

I recently had my LAX to Palm Springs flight cancelled, so they gave us a voucher for Prime Time Shuttle. The voucher for the two of us was $225. We took it out to the shuttle area and they had to probably ask nearly 20 drivers before they were able to find one that was willing to make the drive on a Saturday afternoon. They told us that while they service the area, it's up to the individual drivers if they want to take the route. So I would definitely book your shuttle ahead of time. There are also flights from LAX to PSP. United operates this route on a daily basis.

Unless you can't for some reason, I'd definitely rent a car and drive. It would save a lot of $$

There are other ways if the timing works. EG, you could take the Flyaway bus to Union Station and catch an Amtrak train. But the schedule is limited. Might be worth a look at Amtrak's site to see if the departure times work for you.

Greyhound also runs to Palm Springs but the LA station is downtown in a bad, bad area.

Then you'll need to take a taxi at the PS end.

While you can take a shuttle or fly, you will also need a car once you get to Palm Springs, so I just don't think it's realistic to think you can vacation there without one (unless you plan to stay in your hotel the entire time, even for meals).

You can also take the train from Union Station to North Palm Springs and then a cab or Sunbus to your resort.

However, to easily see anything in PSP and Socal you need a car.

Whether you need or don't need a car depends on what you're planning to do. There is a very comfortable bus that goes along Palm Canyon and the highway. The bus/shuttle combo will take you to the living desert.

If you stay in the downtown, pretty much everything is in the walking distance. Shops, museums, restaurants, movies. The follies too, if you like old ladies dancing :)

To go out of Palm Springs there are many tours.

The only thing I was not able to figure out is a bus to the tram. Couldn't find one :)

Faina is right. You can see a lot in Palm Springs without a car if you stay in a centrally located hotel (anywhere within a few blocks of Palm Canyon Drive. There are restaurants near practically every hotel, and lots of jeep tours and Hummer tours.

After seeing the way some of the snowbirds drive out there, I wish more of them wouldn't.
