LAX outlet shopping

I will be travelling from Australia to Europe in the near future, with a 24 hour stopover in Los Angeles.

I'm going to stay at a hotel close to LAX and would hope to do some shopping at an outlet mall.

Is this feasible in the time I have? Does anyone have any info re outlet malls within reach of my hotel at the airport?

If I'm able to do such shopping, I'd then like to mail my purchases home rather than drag them around the world with me. Is this possible? Is there a Post Office near the airport or even in the airport?

Any tips anyone can give me would be most appreciated.

First, there is a major post office near LAX so mailing purchases home would not be a problem. As far as the outlets, the closest one that I can think of would be in Camarillo, which is about one hour (with traffic moving)from LAX. You would need to rent a car and take the 405-North to the 101-West. There are other shopping malls closer to LAX within "taxi distance", but they are not outlets. Hope this helps!

Hi Daisy2. There is an outlet mall called the Citadel in Commerce. This may be closer than Camarillo. Perhaps you could check Mapquest. Also, I did a Google search for southern California outlet shopping. You may be able to find something there. Godd luck and have a nice trip.

The Citadel will be the closest outlet mall, but it's still far away (just off the I-5). After all, the merchandise is cheap because the vendors are saving on rent-- selling out in the boondocks. The Camarillo outlet would be next. Some two hours south is a good outlet mall in Carlsbad (north of San Diego). Two hours east, you'll find a vast outlet mall (actually, TWO malls!) at Cabazon, ten minutes west of Palm Springs. If you must shop at an outlet, you will absolutely have to rent a car.

And, as carbogilligan notes, the LAX Post Office is one of the very largest in the area. Easy to ship purchases back to Australia.

Hi Daisy!

Don't know about the post office, but from my experience, most cities w/a major airport have a postal facility nearby.

I agree w/rjw . . . if outlet shopping is a MUST, then a rental car will also be a must.

But even though rjw lives there & I just visit frequently, it's not necessarily a 2-hr. drive to Cabazon . . . I made it from Palm Springs (which is further East than Cabazon) to Malibu on a Saturday morning in about an hour and twenty minutes . . . of course, if you're going on a weekday, 2 hours may not be enough time . . . BUT, IMO, the outlets at Cabazon are the BEST outlets in the nation & DEFINITELY worth the trip, if outlet shopping is what you're into. I was there in December, & got a featherbed at a fantastic price, & carted it all the way back to DC . . . But w/the very cold winter we've been having, it was definitely worth all the effort!!!

Additionally, if you're into designers, they have Versace, Prada (although the store is called something else), Gucci, Armani, D&G, & more.

Hope you have fun in California!
