Lava Tours - which is best?

Hi,

We will be in Hawaii the first week of July. I'm wondering what the best way to see the lava, if it's flowing, is? I've seen there are walking tours and boat tours. The boat tours look cool, which one is the best? Any recommendations will be appreciated.

Thanks.

No lava to see right now, except from a distance, so save your money (you don't need a walking tour; just follow the throngs, if there's anything to see). There is no lava entering the ocean right now (and you'll read lots of warnings about that, if you do a little research). The situation could change by July, BUT:

Scroll down to "Viewing summary"; right now, a helicopter is your best bet to see lava.

Do not take a lava boat trip. These are just unlicensed and uninsured fishing boats looking to make a quick buck.

There is considerable exposure to highly toxic gases and risk of swamping by shelf collapse. No one will tell you about that part.

Anyway, the lava isn't flowing now.

Just take a helicopter tour.
