Laundry on NYC trip
Our family of 6 will be visiting NYC at Christmas for one week. I am wondering if we should try to do laundry. Unfortunately, our hotel, a business class hotel in the financial district, does not offer a washer/dryer. Does anyone have suggestions on drop-off laundry places in this area?

Are you stating that a business class hotel in NYC doesn't offer clothes washing/drying/pressing services, or, the hotel do not have a washer/dryer in the rooms or thereabout?
It's difficult to understand the first part, as business class hotels anywhere (esp. NYC) should offer laundry services. On the other hand, if you are looking for an actual washer/dryer that you can operate, then you should call the hotel and find out about the nearest laundry coin-operated facilities. There's generally many of these that are scattered in the city. |
Tell us the hotel and the address, please.

as bill-boy stated, there are many laundries all over that you can drop off and pick up later, all washed, dried and folded - if you are trying to save $ vs. having the hotel handle - I can't imagine a hotel in NYC that wouldn't handle that, esp if they cater to businessmen - that's seems strange. Personally, I wouldn't want to bother with doing laundry if I only had a week in NYC myself - I wouldn't want to take a minute to have to drop off/pick up or not have total flexibility in my plans if I decided to wander elsewhere than having to get back to a laundromat - so if you can't pack light enough w/ all you need for one week, then I would have hotel do it, but this is personal opinion. There are many helpful sites on packing light etc if you aren't used to doing it and want to try - I just think that's the easier answer.

Laundry for a family of 6 will be outrageously expensive if the hotel does it (last time I looked they were charging about $2.50 per pair of socks). The financial district doesn't have much in the way of "neighborhood services" like coin-op laundries, but the hotel should be able to direct you to one no further than in Battery Park City, and many will pick up and deliver for free. Although, for just a week, I wouldn't bother.

Agree that Battery Park City is probably the closest place with a laundry - although since most of the building s are so new - most will have W/D n apartments.
In NYC laundries typically pick up and delivery - but they will also charge much more than in most areas of the country (since this may not be a do it yourself laundromat - but a cleaners that does bulk laundry as well). |
