Laughlin
 

Visiting Las Vegas from the UK in November and now find that Comdex is on when we are there. Have decided to stay in Laughlin for the first 3 nights to avoid most of the convention. Has anyone a favourite hotel in Laughlin and is it practical to drive to the Grand Canyon from there. Back in Las Vegas for 4 nights at the Emerald Springs Holiday Inn. Any info on this hotel?

<BR>Laughlin:Been there,done that.BORING!!!!!!....would never go there again if it were free..out in the middle of NOWHERE!! Please find somewhere else to go Sedona..or Grand Canyon..till you go back to Vegas..

<BR>you do know that The Emerald Springs is off the strip ?? It looks nice from web site and it said it had limo service but it is off the strip a couple blocks..don`t walk around of f the strip at night..my son lived there and that is his advice..on te strip your safe to walk..there are plenty of people around ..don` be scared..

Hi, Elaine, <BR>If you're not booked into the Emerald Springs on a tour, you could see if other accommodation might be available, but it's not all that far from the strip if you're already committed. (Distances in LV are quite large - sore feet is a typical post-LV complaint.) If you can manage one of the newer hotels like the Paris or Venetian or NYNY, you might enjoy the over-the-top architecture, as well as a better location. <BR> <BR>Laughlin is so different from LV that it's unfair to compare them. Many people will find it way too placid (or boring) if LV is the standard. However, many others like the slower pace, the boaters on the Colorado River outside the casino windows (yes, actual windows in casinos), the older clientele and the lower gambling stakes, strolling along the river instead of the strip... IMO Harrah's is the nicest of the bunch, mainly because it has a non-smoking casino, an idea I wish to heaven somebody in LV would twig on. <BR> <BR>Three nights might be a bit much, though, unless you are confirmed gamblers or want to be lazy. Definitely not in LV's class for shows, restaurants, etc. <BR> <BR>If you want something completely different, though, might I suggest a couple of nights in Death Valley? Not a terrible drive from LV, and a very memorable place. <BR> <BR>Be careful with the Grand Canyon in November. Very high altitude can equal cold, snowy conditions. Either way, it's a long drive from Laughlin, a really long drive from LV.

If you've not been to Las Vegas before, I'd avoid staying off the strip. It'll really detract from the experience. <BR>Hotels should be readily available after COMDEX. <BR>A trip to Sedona is an excellent idea. <BR>I, too, think Laughlin is really boring. It's OK for a few hours, but unless you're a big time gambler, it gets dull in a hurry.

The best place to stay in Laughlin is the Flamingo Hilton. Harrahs is OK but is quite a distance from anywhere else. The Flamingo Hilton is nicer and very well located. The Flamingo Hilton also has a large non-smoking area if that is of concern to you. <BR> <BR>If you are not into gaming then Laughlin may be a little boring for you. There is not much to do or see there. On the other hand it is quite peaceful being next to the river.

I liked Harrahs, they are on one end of the "strip" but they have a shuttle to the "center" of the strip. There are nice boat excursions to take. It is really very relaxing there, if you wanted to slow down a bit...
