Later Winter around Mobile

Last year my spouse and I spent a few days in Mobile (on the way to New Orleans) and liked it so much we decided to return to the area this winter or spring. We stayed downtown last time and, while we'll spend at least a couple of nites there again, are thinking of combining it with a few days around Gulf Shores or Dauphin Island. We're not really "beach people" and that is not really "beach season" but we do enjoy walking on the beach, eating seafood, etc. Personally, I like fairly remote places although my spouse likes somewhere with a little more "action." We're both 70.

Which would be better for us, and do you have any recommendations of places to stay?

Thanks in advance!

I think either would be fine, though I have personally only been to Gulf Shores.

I would try to go as late in March or early in April as you can because it can be pretty chilly on the water if it is breezy.

Mobile has a mardi gras festival, not sure of the dates. I have not been but my late husband was there on business one year and his client took him down to see one of the parades.

I think Gulf Shores would be a good place to stay if you want beach. Do check out Fairhope...a really cute town with shops and restaurants.

Thanks folks. March is apparently high season. Mardi Gras looks interesting; it is in late February this year and the parades go on for some time, so that's a possibility.
