Late September long oceanside weekend, but where?
Planning long weekend for late September, want something oceanside (not necessarily tropical) to relax and refresh. Prefer continental US. Nantucket/Vinyard/Cape Cod? Outer Banks? Or, switching oceans, Big Sur or Monterey?
Don't mind rustic, but prefer my rustic on the luxurious side! Price (almost) no object. Suggestions? Thanks.
Brian

Fly to San Jose, CA. Rent car go to Pacific Grove, CA, and stay at Seven Gables, Green Gables etc. Walk the 17 mile drive along the ocean. Go briefly into Monterey knowing that it won't be restful. Browse in Carmel. Almost guaranteed excellent weather. No hurricanes as on the SE coast and even no rain.

The northern california coast from Point Reyes to Mendocino is especially lovely. I've been several times and could go a thousand more. Mendocino has lovely places to stay and so does a nice little town called Elk farther down the coast. Website:www.elkcoveinn.com
