Late nite in NYC

We are looking for something interesting to do between the hours of 9:30PM and 2AM in Manhatten on Saturday nite (comedy clubs or live blues comes to mind). We will be attending a family reunion dinner and the train back to Boston doesnt leave till 2AM. Any places come to mind that dont require reservations or another meal?

You might consider a trip to Chelsea Piers, a sports and entertainment complex on the West Side of Manhattan and 23rd Street. Chelsea Lanes (bowling) is always a fun way to spend some time and isn't terribly expensive. This will also put you within a short and inexpensive cab ride to Penn Station. Most comedy clubs will require a reservation, especially on a weekend night.

How about a cabaret, there are lots in the city Don't Tell Mama comes to mind it's just off Times Square and they usually have VERY talented performers there.

You might want to find a New York Magazine to find out what's playing in the city while you are here.

Of course there's always Time Square for walking, a bit of shopping, stop for a drink, and you can even walk from there to Penn Station, the streets are still packed so you won't have any problems. There is a new large theatre on 34th St near Penn Station and it is open till at least 3 am, so there are lots of people on 7th Ave.

Have a great time!!!!

I highly recommend a small place called Rose's Turn in the Village. It's a little cabaret place where the staff provides the entertainment. Anyone is welcome to come up a sing - but this is NY and most people who come up to sing are theatre people who can belt it out. Also, next store is a good jazz club called Arthur's. Just take the 1 train to Christopher street & you're there.

Check the calendar for BB King's to see who's playing on your date. They often have blues. It's in the theater district not far from Penn Station.

Don't Tell Mama is a good idea too on restaurant row (46th b/w 8th & 9th). I love Rose's Turn and the Duplex but not as geographically desirable as the other options.

We really enjoyed the Comedy Cellar (www.comedycellar.com)

SATURDAY, there are 4 Shows;
7:30pm, 9:15pm, 11:00pm and 12:45am.

They have a 2 drink miminum but the drinks weren't expensive. We reserved the night before, I wouldn't like to risk it without a reservation - the line was long.

Oh, I just LOVE Rose's turn. It's really fun. Don't Tell Mama is good too, but not as campy.

Another suggestion - how about a private karaoke room in Korea-town? They are really fun . . . .

Many thanks for your suggestions..As always, this site is a great resource.

By the way, no trip to Rose's Turn should not also include a stop in to Marie's Crisis, a piano bar/cabaret that's even campier than Rose's Turn. It's right next door.
