Late night restaurants in Sarasota?
 

OK, local experts. Once again we're making an overnight up to Sarasota to see three Asolo plays in two days. So is there anything (other than Patrick's downtown) open for after theatre? I'm talking getting there at 10:30 to 11:00 next Wednesday night? Obviously downtown or north towards the Asolo. This is always a problem for us.

And while we're at it, any exciting new lunch places in the same area for before our two matinees? What's the name of the old house downtown in an area similar to Burn's Court? A woman's name?

Patrick, I don't want to hijack your thread, afterall, you are THE Florida expert in my book...but what plays are you seeing? We are going to Sarasota in a couple of weeks and I thought it would be a great idea for an evening out to see a performance. Have you heard much about "Smell of the Kill"? Thanks :)

Expert on Sarasota? No.

We planned to go up overnight, but had a hard time finding a Sarasota hotel for next Wednesday. Two-thirds of them were no vacancy, and the cheapest I could find -- the Best Western Golden Host was $179 -- outrageous for that place! So decided to go up just for the matinee. Got the tickets and when I found out "Smell of the Kill" was less than an hour and a half long, it seemed like such a waste to go up just for that. I launched into action. Finally found the Sleep Inn on University by the Asolo for $89. So took it and called back and got tickets for "West End Horror", a Sherlock Holmes play on Wed. night, and "Broadway Bound" Thursday matinee.

The Sherlock Holmes play sounds interesting because it includes characters of the actress Ellen Terry, Oscar Wilde, and a young George Bernard Shaw.

Also currently playing is The Front Page.

So any restaurant recommendations?

The Selva Grill maybe open late. The online yellow pages lists their hours as 5:00pm until 12:00am. The food is very unusual and creative. The chef is Peruivan and is known for "jungle fusion." It's located near the corner of Main and Palm. Telephone 941-362-4427. They may also be open for lunch.

Another new restaurant is The Table. It's on Hillview Ave. Not downtown, but not to far a drive. The Table is open for lunch, but not late night on Wednesdays. We ate there several Friday nights ago. Excellent meal but the restaurant was VERY noisy. Lunch may be better.
I can't think of a place with a female name in an old house. 5 0ne 6 is on Burns Court right behind the theater. It is in an old house with a huge Banyan tree in the front yard. Could that be the place your thinking of?

You got me all excited, but I just called Selva Grill. They close at 10 weeknights and 11 on weekends, so looks like that is out. Sounds like the places in Naples, they advertise later hours, but then close earlier than that!

When all else fails do a search here. I found the restaurant I was talking about for lunch. Lavanda's in Towles Court!

It might be too far a drive but I did like Pattigeorge out on Longboat Key. Old house on the bayside with a piano bar and I believe they may have a late closing. The night we were there it was a younger crowd, although that was in early December before pre-deluge of "season".

It's south of St. Armands, not the locale you wanted, but Christophers at the Radisson on Lido Key might be open that late on a weekday. It has a terrific 8th floor view of the beaches from there all the way to Sarasota. Food was low-end expensive, good but predictable, service was stand-offish. But, most important...it may be open. As might other hotel restaurants if you have to go that route.
