Late-night restaurant Manhattan upper West Side
On our trip to NYC next week, we arrive at JFK 8:41 PM from San Diego. Hotel Lucerne on 79th and Amsterdam is our hotel.. I assume after getting the luggage, taxi and check-in it will be around 10:30PM or so. Can we find an open restaurant close to the hotel at those hours?
Thanks.. |
The good restaurant IN the hotel (actually on the corner of the hotel's building) is Nice Matin - on Sundays and Mondays they close at 11PM, every other day they serve 'til midnight . .
http://nicematinnyc.com/ There are plenty of places open around 11 or 12 around the corner from your hotel , up Amsterdam Ave. Really, no worries. |
I am amazed that there will be a place in the hotel... ! and others too. mp thanks...one less concern.

Fatty Crab sounds Indonesian?...all sound good. I just read menus and my mouth is watering. ...I think we will like staying at the Lucerne and this neighborhood.
|
Enjoy! We arrive @ The Lucerne on 10/18.

We were in New York earlier this month and stayed at the Beacon on the UWS. We had our worst meal of the trip at the Fatty Crab. We had better luck at La Vela (very cute little Italian restaurant where my theater-going friend spotted the actress Kathleen Chalfant at an adjacent table) on Amsterdam and also at the Ocean Grill on Columbus.

You have to add Bettola to your list. It's on Amsterdam between 79th & 80th. Great little Italian place. We loved it!

Fatty Crab's type of food is not for everyone - it's quite in your face, aggressive spicing, high fat, balance of sweet, spicy, tangy, using unusual (to some) ingredients and combinations such as the watermelon salad with crispy pork belly. La Vela and Ocean Grill are much more . . . shall we say, typical.
Check out reviews/profiles at http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/la-vela/ http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/fatty-crab/ http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/ocean-grill/ and see what suits you best. |
Thanks...they all look great.
