Late Night Dinner in Chicago
We are traveling to Chicago in April with our two teenagers. Our flight is not scheduled to land until around 9:30PM. We are staying at the Doubletree on Delaware Avenue. I am looking for suggestions for restaurants that are open late in the area of our hotel.
Thanks |
You won't have a problem finding a restaurant that serves late at night in this area. The restaurant in your hotel will probably still be serving, and if not, you will be able to find a lot of other restaurants within walking distance or a short cab ride away from your hotel. Call the hotel directly and tell the concierge exactly what your preference is. I'm sure that they can direct you. Most restaurants in this area are open late and still serving. Figure at least an hour or more to pick up your luggage and travel to the hotel from either O?Hare or Midway airport. I wouldn't plan diner sooner than 11:00, and even later if you first want to check in and freshen up first. Do a search for other ?Chicago? tips on this site. I live in the suburbs, but when I go downtown, I check the boards for suggestions and they are usually right on target. Enjoy Chicago, Cherish |
Perhaps it would be easier to eat at the Airport. If you are flying into O'hare, there are several sit down restaurants in each terminal.

The Cheesecake Factory is open until 12:30 Fri/Sat, 11:30 other nights, and is located in the bottom of the Hancock building very close to your hotel. Even though it is a chain, I actually like the food, just hate the waiting part but that late at night you shouldn't have to wait for a table.
There is also a Giordano's for pizza (but stuffed pizzas take a good 45 minutes to cook)at 730 N. Rush that should still be open. If you want something a little nicer, Carmine's for Italian at 1043 N. Rush is open until midnight on Fri/Sat http://www.rosebudrestaurants.com/carmines.htm |
There's a 24 hour restaurant called Tempo at Chestnut (1 block south of Delaware) and State Street (2 blocks west of Michigan Avenue.) Lots of local celebs eat there; it has breakfast all day and a large menu. It's not a fancy place, but might fit the bill when everyone has a different size appetite.

Please don't eat in the airport on the way in to the city (may be good advice if flying out). The city has wonderful restaurants - large and small, quick or slow - that are far better to start a trip off than at ORD.

tmh- the suggestion was based on the time they are arriving.
They will likely not get to their hotel untill 11:00. Which will get them to a restaurant around 11:30. If they could just get a quick meal at ORD and save the " wonderful restaurants - large and small, quick or slow" for another night. And I see you didn't even recommend a place to go at 11:30. That sure helped |
We've been known to stumble into the Billy Goat Tavern after 11 or so for a few "Cheez-bugahs". Not fine dining but fun.

Thank you for your suggestions. Interesting, at least some of them

I second Tempo. Good food - lots of locals.
