late east coast fall foliage
 

I am attending a wedding in Connecticut October 25th and will drive in any direction from there to see fall foliage. Just for a few days. Could someone recommend a place to go and a cozy romantic place to stay?

On that date CT will prob. be in its full beauty

10/25 is getting late for peak foliage in most of CT. Second weekend in Oct is about peak, under normal conditions.

You are going to have to go south, maybe down to southern Jersey or DC, I think.

Um, Debit, it's high season in S. VT on Columbus Day. Extrapolating from that I'm guessing 2 wks for the color to get to CT. I'm not arguing tho. Hey, I'm prob. wrong.

I always found Boston was 2 weeks ahead of southern CT; which is 2 weeks ahead of Washington DC.

On another thread they have a foliage predictor. CT looks like in late Oct.

You might want to play it by ear and figure out where to go as you get close to that date, unless you're worried about lodging and want to get something now. It can vary with the weather, but I'd think sometime in the second half of October tends to be about right for southern CT. It'll probably be past peak anywhere like the Berkshires or any mountains to the north of CT, though. It doesn't have to be at peak color anyway-it'll stil be nice and it's not as if there's only a few places with trees on the east coast to choose from!

Now that I think of it, on the way to Maine the other week I stopped overnight in Sturbridge, MA. (just over the CT line) I didn't stay here, but this place looked pretty nice from the outside, and there was another old historic inn I saw as well that looked nice.

They also have something there called Old Sturbridge village, a reconstructed and restored 17th-18th century village, sort of a living history thing. I did not have time to check it out, so have no idea what it's like. (i.e whether it's a tourist trap or not)

You might have good luck in RI and coastal CT. I've seen half decent late foliage in RI as late as Oct 23. We stayed at the Publick House earlier this year for a weekend seminar. The inn is lovely, good food, nice area but we actually stayed in the motel units out back which are typical motel units. Haven't been to Old Sturbridge for quite a few years but it's a great place if you like history.
