Late Dinner and jazz in NYC on Friday night

My husband and I have tickets for the Colour Purple this Friday and then we want to meet up with a couple friends for a late dinner/drinks. Please can you give us suggestions for a jazz club where we can have a late dinner and enjoy some cool jazz? Could be a taxi ride from the theatre or walking distance, doesn't matter.

Blue Smoke, Dizzy's Club Coca Cola, Iridium...

Thanks Lizzie. I will check the websites of the ones you've mentioned. Anything other possibilities?

Another vote for Blue Smoke. Don't miss Danny Meyer's mac & cheese.

yes gekko! enya, whatever you do, do not miss the mac and cheese at blue smoke! the blue note is the jazz club downstairs. you can order some food there, or (i think) the full menu upstairs after a show.

Blue Note is on W. 3rd street. www.bluenote.net. It's not associated with Blue Smoke.

Jazz Standard is the jazz club underneath Blue Smoke.

Village Vanguard is another well-known jazz club--no food, just drink.

Enjoy dinner at Blue Smoke first, then go downstairs for jazz.

is a great website that lists almost every jazz club in NYC by area.

The places nearest the theater district would be listed under midtown. Iridium and Birdland are 2 of the bigger ones and BB King's sometimes has jazz.

A lot depends on what kind of jazz, how far you're willing to travel (it's not easy finding a taxi after a show) and how much you care about the quality of the food. Some of the clubs that serve food may have great jazz but only fair food. I agree Blue Smoke and the Jazz Standard below is one of the better options.

Blue Water Grill (known for seafood) is another option further downtown with a basement jazz club. In the village, Knickerbocker Bar and Grill, Jules Bistro and the Garage are also jazz clubs with good food and good jazz.

who cares what it's called as long as there's mac & cheese??? I'd put in a smiley here, but I don't know how...

OK, to get this post on-topic, you can also order from a limited menu at Jazz Standard, I think.
