LasVegas-pedestrian access to RIO ?

We were at Las Vegas last year, and could not safely walk to RIO from the strip. We don't mind the walk, but there was no sidewalk over the Interstate highway.Someone on the bus we eventually took mentioned a proposed walkway.Does anyone know if this has been built,or are stuck with cabs,or buses.
Thanks

Actually there is now a pedestrian walkway from the strip to the Rio. It opened in the spring of this year with bridges going over I-15, etc. However, it is still a long walk, and in the Las Vegas heat even longer. And it has been quite hot there this summer.

The walkway is open. It took about 15 minutes to walk from the corner of Caesar's on the strip to the RIO. It's sun all the way - no shade.

The sidewalk is in now all the way from Flamingo to the Rio, but do be extremely careful. Last week we were driving and realized what a long hike it is in that heat. If you are without a car, you could take the free shuttle from Harrah's to Rio (runs every 20, 25 minutes, 9 am - 1 am) or take the shuttle from Barbary Coast to the Gold Coast (every 20 minutes) and walk over to the Rio.

Oddly, along the walkway we saw a family -- 2 young kids and a dad -- horsing around on the concrete ledge that is close to I-15. The kids would jump off the ledge and slide down the embankment. Talk about dangerous.
