Horrible!! Seats do not recline (at least in a 767 they don't) and your are sitting right next to the rest room. YUCK doesn't even begin to explain that. NEVER, ever again!!

Can the OP tells us what airline, to where?

There are a lot of general stuff being mentioned in this board, which may or may not apply.

What does apply is engine noise. It will be louder than in the mid-plane area. Bumpier? Yes, if the plane hits turbulence. So, it depends on your luck.

All the other things will depend on the airline's configuration. For example, I flew last row EWR-HKG on CO's 777 (15+ hours). Tonnes of people told me not to take the last row, but in fact I have one of the most comfortable seats in economy.

And of course, on 747s, the last several rows outside are some of the most coveted seats in all of coach.

Again, depends on the airline's configuration. Check www.seatguru.com or www.seatexpert.com for comments.

rkkwan, you wrote, "And of course, on 747s, the last several rows outside are some of the most coveted seats in all of coach."

Outside? I don't want to fly outside the plane! Is this what coach has deteriorated to? We can no longer sit inside? Do you at least get a helmut and parachute?

We used FF miles on Continental to London & even though we booked online WAY in advance & picked seats at that time, we got stuck on the last row when we got to the airport. It was horrible!! The seats didn't recline & it was very cramped. The bathrooms were right there & the smell of heating airline food was gross! Once there was even someone outside the bathroom with a prayer mat going through their prayer routine. NEVER AGAIN! I doubt baggage could be worse.

benj - 3 out of 4 CO flights to LGW are now on 777 (both IAH and one of EWR). 44AB/KL there are actually very good.

On a recent flight with my husband, our seats somehow got split. Unfortunately, I didn't have my confirmation with me when we checked in. Anyway, we requested to be sat together and got the second to last row of the plane. Sorry I don't know what size plan. But it was 3 seats and 2 seats. We sat in the middle and aisle on the 3 seat side. The row in front of us had a panel in front of them so we couldn't to the front of the plane. It was a strange little section. Now, I never have problems flying with nervousness, nauseousness, etc. However, in those seats, we couldn't see out the windows either because they were all blocked by the engines - very closterphobic (which I don't have a problem with either). Anyway, I had a tiny panic attack when we landed because I couldn't see the ground or outside or anything. Not a fun experience.

In response to rkkawn, I was specifically referring to Continental's 767 IAH - OGG.

Thanks to everyone for the replies so far.

All my cons have already been listed.

We sat second from the last row only once in all our years of travel and we vowed to never again do that. The most irritating thing was the mom and dad who sat WAY up front and put all 4 children (who did not get along with eachother at all) at the very back. At one point, when they came back to check on the kids, we offered to change places with them. No deal!

If you have a choice, don' t sit there. But, having said that, enjoy your trip no matter where you sit!

Check out seatguru.com There, if you know your airline and the type of plane, they will produce a cool map of all of the seats with positive and negative seats marked. It is pretty cool.

Worst feature, I think, is that the seats in the last row don't recline at all. Very uncomfortable for a long flight.

rkkwan Mar 10th, 2005 05:20 PM

Read www.seatguru.com and also CO's timetable and seating plans.

CO 48/49 IAH-OGG uses a 767-400. Either the CO's configuration (767) or the CO Micronesia configurations (764). No difference in the back.

All seats have full recline. And no lavatories in the rear. Therefore, most of what's said in this thread doesn't apply. However, the A/B and K/L seats on the last row is still not desirable because of reduced width.

So, there you have it.
