Last minute Vacation with adult children
 

Taking vacation with our adult children 33 and 30. Looking for place to veg in sun and find things to do and we are tired of Florida. What other cities in the US will fit the description. Will Palm Springs or any place in California be warm enough to enjoy laying out in the sun and use a pool. I understand the ocean will be too cold.

Suggestions welcome.

Palm Springs is nice, my friend goes there in January and rents a condo for a month. They had lovely warm weather this past January. Of course, weather can change at any moment!

The title says "Last Minute" so presumably very soon.

It will still be hot in Palm Springs - the next week high 80's to high 90's. Hot today but cooling later in the week to around 90-ish. Not like Florida 90F though w/ humidity in the 10% region. - good pool weather.

Palm Springs is still warm, but not humid. It will be nice and plenty of restaurants and hiking in the palm canyons or up Mt. Jacinto. Prices will still be off season.

San Diego would also be great.

Unless you play golf, there isn't much to do in Palm Springs whereas there to much to do in San Diego.

However, at this time of year, it is much warmer in Palm Sprikngs than in San Diego, and it would be a great place to hang out around a pool and to enjoy good meals with your family.

The Living Desert, in Palm Desert, is an interesting place, and the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is popular diversion.

When we are in Palm Springs we always enjoy driving up Highway 84 (outside Palm Desert), turning around at the top, and taking in the sweeping views on the way back down the mountain.

PS You could also drive to Joshua Tree National Park one day. However, there are many to whom its stark beauty does not appeal.

I have read all the above posts and have some additional suggestions.

Palm springs owes its warm climate to its location in the huge Sonoran desert, which covers most of southern Arizona, extends into northern Mexico, and crosses the Arizona-California border to include southeast California and specifically the Coachella Valley where Palm Springs is.

The two major cities in the Sonoran desert are Phoenix, AZ, and Tucson, AZ. Their daily temperatures are almost identical to Palm Springs, yesterday about 90 high and 65 low. Great for sitting around a pool. Both Phoenix and Tucson offer far more, however, to the tourist than Palm Springs does.

Phoenix Sky Harbor airport is a major southwest hub. Tucson less so, but still much more so than Palm Springs. You surely will be flying (perhaps from Michigan?). So that may be relevant.

Palm Springs is nice and hot at the moment – plenty of sunshine and it is pool-lounging weather. If you don’t want to visit Florida then Palm Springs makes a good alternative. I don’t think golf is the only option for an activity in Palm Springs – you can also find art museums, state parks, the San Jacinto mountains, the Living Desert zoo is cool, and the Ariel Tramway is great fun.
