Last Minute Trips?
 

I am not a last minute person by any means, but I am wondering about the last minute vacation deals that I see on yahoo travel and travelocity.

has anyone here ever used one? did you have a good experience? was it a good bargain?

i am considering doing a last minute trip in december as I may be able to find a good 4 day weekend deal, but am hesitant because I tend to like to plan my trips a couple of months in advance.

If you are able to schedule a trip and be packed and ready to go within a few days or a week or two, there are some terrific bargains. But, you have to do your homework so that you can recognize a real bargain and not just one that Yahoo or Travelocity tells you is a bargain.

You can always research your destination ahead of time, figure out what you'd need to pack for the weather, and be otherwise sufficiently organized so that, if an appealing package is available, you're ready to go.

A few years back we did a quick trip turnaround booking (with Travelocity I believe) to Freeport, Bahamas--we booked a flight w/hotel at the Westin Lucaya. We were booked for a particular type of room and it was guaranteed. Upon check-in, they tried to change the room...we wouldn't back down and showed them our printout and we got a tremendous ocean view room. We loved the property and area, great for a quick getaway. The infinity pool was fabulous and a place where we spent a lot of time. Anyway, the price on the vacation package was a great deal and we ended up having a great time.

I did a last minute deal from travelocity in February. My friend and I got a round trip flight and 2 nights at the Marriott in DC for under $300/per person. The hotel was going for about $150/night, and the flight was well over $300, so we thought it was a good deal. Everything went smoothly - it was a typical Marriott room and a typical United flight thought O'Hare, that is to say, it was delayed:)

We've been to Europe (Paris, Amsterdam, Munich) several times & places in the US such as NOLA, Boston, etc. all on e-savers. They come out on Wednesday & you depart on Saturday. You can't beat it.
