Last minute Detroit advice?

Going to the International Jazz festival. Anybody have any tips about:

1) Places to avoid downtown

2) Restaurants in Greektown

3) Best place to park

4) Is The Henry Ford worth it?

5) Any other "can't misses"?

Thanks!

No places to really avoid downtown, save for the Cass Corridor which you probably won't go near anyway.
In greektown, there are (surprise!) lots of Greek restaurants, of which Pegasus Taverna and Plaka are standouts. There's also great Chicago-style deep dish pizza at Pizza Papalis, and very good Greek pizza at Niki's. Avoid the restaurants in the Greektown Casino, they're average and overpriced.
Parking depends on where you want to be. Are you staying downtown? It might be easiest and cheapest to park in one of the Greektown lots and take the people mover (elevated automated train) over to Hart Plaza for the festival.
Henry Ford is definitely worth a trip if you're at all into the history of the auto, and it has a great IMAX theater.
The Detroit Institute of Arts is a very nice art museum and make sure you take a walk along the riverside promenade while youre downtown. If you've got time, go across the river and you'll be in another country, Canada.

Thanks, Marty! I'll actually be bunking in Canton and driving from there to downtown. Thanks for the suggestions on Greektown; it's also good to know we can take the people mover from Hart -- I was just planning on walking.

Won't be able to go to Winsdsor (no passport handy), but I'll definitely talk a walk on the promenade. Planning on spending Sunday morning in Ann Arbor, so hopefully I'll finish with enough time to check out the cultural attractions...

Also, for parking at the Jazz Fest, there is parking available on the roof of Cobo. I want to say it's $5 for the day? I can't remember how much I paid when I went last year. Cobo also has a People Mover stop, so if you wanted to hit Greektown you could ride back to Cobo after via the "train."

As far as places to avoid, there aren't many. Marty's right about the Corridor, but even driving through you won't really have any trouble (the only time people get into trouble there is when they are looking to score, and then, well, they're kind of asking for it). I live downtown in Detroit for two and a half years and never had any trouble at all.

I'm foolish. Jazz Fest was last weekend. At any rate, hope you had an excellent time!
