Last minute Chicago - looking for bad weather fun
We leave tomorrow for Chicago. Plans made envisioned ice skating at Millenium Park, New Years Eve fireworks at Navy Pier, the usual romantic long weekend stuff. Now, the weather looks awful - too warm to snow and a couple of days of rain, combined with some stiff E winds off of the lake. We are staying at the Swiss Hotel. Any ideas for some Windy City fun for 'just the two of us' in bad weather.

Swisôtel, sorry. The one near Navy Pier.

Hopefully the weather will cooperate for a good weekend, but rain or shine, Chicago is a blast. Make sure your plans for New Year's eve are either set with reservations or VERY flexible as the Bears game has been switched to a night game and will dump 70,000 plus people on to the Chicago streets about 11 PM, the restaurants and bars will be packed prior to kickoff also. Good Luck!

All of these are on the museum campus - but don't go during the game - it's the same parking structure! The Shedd aquarium The Adler planitarium The Field Museum Lots to do inside. |
Yes, thanks for the heads up, but we're all set for the 31st. It should be a crazy night, hopefully not too crazy. The Packers still have a glimmer of hope, I guess, so there could be some extra New Year's exhuberance. We're from MN but (thankfully) not Vikings fans... I get enough grief when Chicago wearing my Twins gear.
Any foul weather suggestions, anyone? |
Sorry about not addressing the real question in my first reply. We love the second city improvs, many to choose from if not booked. I agree with the museum campus suggestions. Lots of indoor shopping available too. Movies or Jazz clubs are fun.

Have brunch/lunch or a drink at the top of the Hancock.

"museum of stained glass" on the Navy Pier is not a museum, more like a very interesting exhibit. Also on the Pier 3-D movies.
Field museum is great, fun for all ages. |
hey, fun2travel:
No critcism intended. Actually, I appreciated your reminder about the game very much. Very specific and timely local information. Thinking of ducking into a museum or theatre is pretty second nature in any city, but always pays to have exact backups in mind. I was just kind of panicking and looking for some reassurance that the trip won't be a washout. All this in just a few hours. This site rocks! Any more? I have just a little more time before heading out. THANKS, ALL! |
All of these suggestions are great. In fact, I think Chicago is no less fun during bad weather than it is in good weather. Chicagoans are used to incliment weather. It is all part of the Chicago aura.
